Merchant ID: Ultra-fine wet and dry sand paper

Someone posted here earlier (but I can't locate the post) the name of a retail supplier of ultra-fine wet and dry sand paper, I believe in grit sizes 1,000 to 10,000, approx.

Does anyone have the name(s) of vendor(s) of such abrasives?

Thanks.

Re: CENTER RAIL QUESTION?

High Roller and others. This is one of the most radical and promising PC design ideas I have seen in, quite literally, years! Imagine not having your wheels whacked sideways half a dozen times (give or take, depending upon the quality of alignment) during every race! The interpretation of our group'...

Re: A couple of Axle Polishing questions...

Does anyone have an estimate for the "grit size equivalent" numbers for "Mothers" and Jewelers Rouge?

Thanks!

Re: Trigger mechanism for starting gate - ideas requested

Thank for your ideas. We have now completed the modification to our starting gate so that is now semi-automatic (although, still mechanical). It may be quite similar to Darin's setup. For those that are contemplating automating their own gate, here are some pictures of our starting mechanism, before...

Trigger mechanism for starting gate - ideas requested

Our YMCA group operates a 4-lane Beta aluminum track. Up to this point, starting has been done manually. We are looking to automate the starting in order to reduce starter variability, but wish to stay with a mechanical solution. Our current starting gate mechanism consists of four bolts, protruding...

Re: comparing times on aluminum tracks

Ours is a 49' Challenger aluminum tracks from Beta Crafts. http://www.geocities.com/~pack215/pwd-challenger.html With manual starting gates, the accumulated times for four races for the top four finishers were (rounded to two decimals, using The Judge and GP Manager - highly recommended combination!...

Nye Oil II or SB10?

Has anyone compared the two above products in an actual pinecar track setting? If so, which one is the best lubricant?

Thanks,
Sigurd

Re: Electronic FinishLines for outdoor use

Our group recently purchased "The Judge" with the sunlight option and had our first race with it yesterday, outdoors in sunny Southern California.

It worked flawlessly during the entire race, although we did keep it under an awning to reduce IR pollution.

Center of gravity - extra long track

Our track is a traditionally shaped one, with a 8 ft. drop initially, but then with an "extra long" 40 flat section (all aluminum). This group has suggested that for longer tracks, the COG should be placed further towards the center of the car, compared to for a relatively shorter track. W...

Shortening rear overhang

Our group's rules do not allow changing the car's wheelbase, as defined by the distance between the axles. Does it make design sense to move the axles backwards - in effect, by cutting off the piece of wood behind the rear axle, and re-attach it to the front of the car? By doing this, one should get...

Weight distribution (not COG positioning)

Does the position of lead impact on the pinecar (PC) performance? Imagine we have two identical PC blocks, with identical axles and wheels. Both have their center of gravity (COG) dead in the center (for the sake of example). The cars differ in only one repect - the first has all the lead tightly cl...

Seeking software/spreadsheet for non-timed derby

Hi, We run a Derby with some 100 cars on a 4-lane, non-timed track, and are looking for suitable race management software/spreadsheet. No integration with timer is necessary - freestanding PC, only. In this NG I found this link: http://home1.gte.net/res06xo8/pine.htm Any other packages (commercial/s...

"Official" PC Derby rules

Hi,

I was reading somwehere, but can't remember where, about an effort to standardize the set of rules governing a PC Derby. Does anyone have a link or ideas?

Thanks.

Re: Speed impact of various types of lubrication

Mike and all, Upon further thought, I have realized that the surgeon lube I referred to at the start of this thread may not be silicone-based - I am simply not certain what type of product it is based on, because my source did not tell me - just that it is used by surgeons for said application. Rega...

Speed impact of various types of lubrication

We run an annual PC Derby. Two years ago, a new group joined our organization. With no purported prior experience building PCs, this group took the three first spots out of a total 60 cars racing. This year, they also took the three first spots, this time out of 115 cars. Their group only had some 6...
