Re: Second year racing
VitaminK, they are probably similar wipes. Congrats on your little one!! Baby wipes clean just about everything. I even use them to clean my car interior lol.

Graphite Clean Up
In case anyone is interested, I have discovered that baby wipes work very well for wiping graphite off of car surfaces! I used Member's Mark (Sam's Club) brand (the unscented). They even worked well on painted surfaces that had little to no top coat.

Re: Second year racing
Thank you Vitamin K! I assumed I would need foam but I wanted to see how others did it. I have had several items from Amazon damaged lately (one of the light sets was packaged with stain removing spray that burst open), and so if I am going to do this, I want it as secure as humanly possible lol. Do...

Re: Second year racing
Vitamin K, I don't know, unless it has to do with the it being something extra for the handlers to take care of for the cars that are sent in. III. – Prohibited Items that can NOT be used Magnets, springs or suspension systems of any type. Starting devices, finish line devices, propellants, or propu...

Re: Second year racing
Vitamin K, the rules say that if it has light, they have to be turned off, so I am assuming that means they leave them off for the race.

Mid America
Speedster, so I looked into the Mid America race. I haven't registered yet because I will wait a week or so and see how it goes, but.... I may or may not have picked up a "basic racer" block at Lowe's yesterday lol. It looks like they don't light them up in the race so I am working on a de...

The Lights - More in depth
Alright guys, I have some pictures for you. Here are the lights to get an idea of their true size right out of the package. http://www.jennieweb.com/derby/thelights1.jpg The distance between lights is close to 4". The lights themselves are approximately .25" in length. If you are placing y...

The lights
TitanNV and Whoda, I will send a better response to everyone tomorrow, but I did weigh a set of the blue lights this evening. They came up as .5 but you have to keep in mind that that is the entire thing. In my case I didn't use all twenty lights and I also shortened the cable coming from the batter...

The lights
These are the lights I used in the cars. Blue in Dino Dig and Green in Dragon. The Skate car used a purple set from JoAnn Fabrics but it was about the same price for one strand there as two on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B010J4RMIO/ref=gwm_tlc_pi?pf_rd_p=62af779f-88df-4dd0-be50-91c6a4b966...

Re: Second year racing
Thank you Speedster! I hadn't heard of Novus 2 and it is now in my Amazon cart. Looks awesome! I have used similar products but not for a car yet. I did not do much with the wheels except lots and lots of graphite, looking for imperfections, and alot of testing each wheel per axle to find the smooth...

Re: Second year racing
Thanks Speedster! We had a track issue last year. I am guessing it wasn't lined up properly because DS8's car went so fast that when it hit the defect, it flew off and caused damage to the car that I didn't have the stuff to fix on the spot (this year I am taking my derby toolbox and am leaving it i...

Re: Second year racing
Thanks everyone for the awesome welcome! Vitamin K, thank you. I knew I wanted to wire them up (at that time I thought I was only making two cars), but I could not find any actual derby lighting that did what I wanted it to do. Most of them were geared toward headlights. After a ton of browsing on A...

Second year racing
Hi everyone! I am brand new here. My son's are not in Scouts but they race yearly with our church. Our rules are pretty standard such as BSA wheels but we do not have to use the pre determined axel slots. Only graphite for lubrication. Prior to last year my husband was the car man for our kids, but ...
