Re: Points vs time - actual results for discussion

The 12-car 4-lane chart, a PPN category chart, is excellent for matching cars if 1. you are competing by time, or 2. you are selecting finalists for point competition. It is less appropriate for direct point competition. If you wish to determine final standing on points in one chart, the chart sele...

Points vs time - actual results for discussion

I post these partial results from yesterday’s race to compare/contrast time vs points. What place you feel these cars should end up in probably will depend on your personal bias. There were 12 racers on a 4 lane track. PPN scheduling was used. Cars 5-8 were far enough behind in points and times that...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

Ahhhhh, now I see. While I understand your position. I don't necesarily agree that asking for consistency is too high a stanard for the boys. Of the top 4 racers, 3 of them managed to do it. If the fourth car fell out because of damage by a race official, then a quick call to Council by one of the o...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

Very simply, while points and times track nicely under the given circumstances, they DO NOT track absolutely. This one variable alone is why I say that we should be at least weary of stating the boy would have remained in the top 3. And in fact you state in your post Competing on time, the no-longer...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

Not at all... It would have dropped to 3rd or 4th overall and 3rd among cars eligible to go to council. Ok. But we're still making the assumptin that he would have been in 2nd place after 5 races (and would have dropped to 3rd or 4th). He may not have been. He may just as well been in 3rd place (us...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

 What about a hybrid scoring system? One where the final standings are determined by the timed standings plus the points earned for finish order. You would need a way to balance it so neither would be more valuable in determining the final standings. Probably use a multiplier for the times st...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

I noticed, for instance that the car I was interestedin was trailing $2 by avg 0.01 sec and leading the next by about the same amount. So you want to say the car was in second by time but would have stayed in second by points based on scoring the last race alone by points? That's a pretty big leap ...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

On the other side, a car that had been running more slowly kept on doing it and was suddenly vaulted into an invitation to the council races. This is a rather dramatic statement since: 1) We would have to know all of the scores from all of the races and tallied them...You stated the car was running...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

2. A very high penalty for a "bad run." This again depends on your definition of fastest car. If you lean towards points scoring you would be inclined to call it that If you lean towards total time, you might say that the boy would have gotten a bonus in points scoring and others would ha...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

Couldn't agree with you more on the three points a couple of posts earlier Stan. Perhaps a gentle nudge towards this forum is in order. It is at best frustrating to hear stories such as these and you have now been armed with the most dangerous weapon...knowledge....Perhaps you should volunteer to he...

Re: Viewing racemanagement software on tv

I pulled the hardware out of the closet it is Averkey...sorry. Seems like I spent about $80 on it. I use this for far more than my PW. I use this same setup at my Blue and Gold banquet to show pictures from the past year. I have also used it at my roundups for the same purpose (but with fewer TV's)....

Re: Viewing racemanagement software on tv

We did a camera feed to one TV set last year and it worked well. The kids themselves still migrated towards the finish line and blocked the view as they had in the past. But with the camera feed to the TV nobody really minded because they could all see the finish. Last year the camera was stationary...

Re: Viewing racemanagement software on tv

I have an AveryKey IMicro that sits between my PC and my monitor. It intecpts the traffic that goes to the monitor and splits it off to both the monitor and and RCA or S-Video jack. I plug the rca jack into a VCR's input and send it out the back of the VCR over coax (to boost the strength). From the...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

The larger the group relative to the number of lanes and heats, the greater the inaccuracy and the greater the effect of such variability on final finish place. That is why I like two stage racing for large group ... a preliminary that involves everyone and a final that involves about twice as many...

Re: New Track - Points vs Time?? Help!

Secondly, if all I have when the race is over is place finish points, it becomes very difficult if not impossible to analyze the results to see if there was really a “bad apple”. At least with times I can go back and validate the results. Late yes, but it still can be done. You can't file the times...
