Re: Oh no! Lightened wheels are legal again!

The actual wording says "Lathe type wheels are not allowed". The question then becomes, what are lathe type wheels? So, I asked what the intent was! I personally spoke to the guy who made the rules and runs the Council race. He told me it's to prevent V, H, and U profile wheels, the tread ...

Re: Oh no! Lightened wheels are legal again!

Well, we already get a "Free Pass" to ScoutBlast (where the race is held) because we sold Discount Coupons, and it includes free admission. Besides, the event is about 100 miles away. And if there are cars running with lightened wheels... well, I would probably say something I'd regret lat...

Oh no! Lightened wheels are legal again!

This is unbelievable. I've just been informed that the Council has changed their minds, and lightened wheels are once again legal. We were told one day before our District race they were banned, so we were barely able to strip our car, make legal wheels, and make the race. Of course, it ran poorly i...

Re: 4 Wheelin'

We have to have 4 wheels down, and let me tell you, that was the most difficult part of our check-in process at District! Many cars had to have some tweaking right there at check-in. But I digress... I had set my car up to rail ride on the dominant wheel, just like a 3 wheeler. My non-dominant front...

Re: Good luck at District tomorrow

TAL, I specificly asked if I could mount a wheel in a mandrel and spin it on my hand drill, and was told, No, that would be machining. I pointed out that they sold the mandrels in the Scout shop, and again he said no. He may not have known what a mandrel is. I'm sure he was about as annoyed at the w...

Re: Good luck at District tomorrow

Thanks for the support, guys. I have not been in contact with anyone at the Council about it, because 1) I think they would think it's "sour grapes" from me, and 2) I don't want to discuss this while I am still mad about it, I don't want to say something I would live to regret. There was a...

Re: Good luck at District tomorrow

Scoremaker, My son's car ran poorly at District. The story: We set the car up to use the lightened wheels. TWO DAYS before the race, I was informed that the powers that be at Council changed their minds and outlawed them. Mind you, I had just spoken with the Council rule maker just two weeks ago and...

Re: Anybody tried no lead/weight behind the rear wheels?

The rear axle acts as a fulcrum. Weight behind the rear axle works to lift the front of the car. Move that weight to just in front of the rear axle, more weight is borne by the front axle, thus increasing stability. Mass placed behind the axle stops falling downwards as soon as the rear axle reaches...

Re: District Champion -- despite "new" rules

Hearing this makes me sick. We don't impound cars until the day of the race at our District race, so there is no chance for an official to mess with the cars, however, our rules can be interpreted differently by different people depending upon their bias. In fact, I was told that there was someone w...

Re: How do your wheels sound?

I did a little more wheel spinning last night, and I noticed that I usually hold the car upside down, by the back of the car when I'm spinnin'. So the front wheels are "out there" when I spin them. So, taking a step on the wild side, I held the car firmly on the front, and when I spun, the...

Re: This may be silly................

Stan, I quite agree! The first year my son qualified for the council race, he ran 3rd at District. So, we knew going in we weren't the fastest. But, I was not prepared for being the SLOWEST at Council! Yikes! So, when he asked how we did, I told him we finished 10th. (About in the middle.) My little...

Re: PacK Race Results

Let me get this straight.... Another kid dropped his car, and was allowed to substitute in another car? And the substitute car was a past District Champ? In our Council, no subs are allowed, and any car run must be made in the current year! You should have been declared champ for 2007! I can see let...

We've really strayed from the topic of this thread, which was to help get Elkie a better performing car for today's race.

Hey, Elkie! How did you do?

Re: HELP!!...pratice tonight car problems

You have valid points about Snuffy running on a smooth aluminum BestTrack. If you anticipate running on a rough track, a more conservative setup is appropriate. (I don't have the tooling or the skills to build a car like Snuffy, but I can apply the principles of what made it fast to our cars. Or, at...

Re: HELP!!...pratice tonight car problems

Guys, I base my "ALL the weight s/b placed just in front of the rear axle" on my observations of Jay Wiles (WarpSpeedINC)'s car "Snuffleupagus". It was the WIRL stock winner for 2005, and it had all the weight just in front of the rear axle, and it was a large tungsten cylinder. ...
