Re: level the playing field

For me leveling the playing field is making all my tools/jigs available to all the kids participating. I don’t keep speed secrets. I openly prep/build my stuff at the workshops. I talk to the kids about what I am doing and what I used to do it. Last year was our first year but we provided paint, san...

Re: 2020 Belly Tank Racer, my entry for Outlaw Class

Because there is nothing to visually scale the car I thought this thing was 18” long. The rim coloring makes the wheel look extra fat that my mind made me think they were rubber tires. What an amazing look and effect. I am really impressed.

Any clue what kind of wood the Awana blocks are?

And/or why they are all shorter than 7"
I just measured my block out and it is 6 7/8" L x 1 1/2" H x 1 3/4" W and as far as I can tell it is made of pine.

Re: Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller

No, as the AWANA commander I am in charge of the rules. Modification of the wheelbase is totally allowed! 8)

I just haven’t redrilled them yet. I literally just have a block of wood 4 axles 4 wheels and a dream.

I have a scaled drawing and did a poster board mock up and put it on my official AWANA block and wheels so I could ...

Re: Now Available: The Clear Drill Jig

So, this product seems to have disappeared off the map. No website, not on ebay/amazon. Reason I was looking was because of the Inclined Kinetics podcast. Anyone have any info on where I can locate one?

Re: Microwizard Crate Build

So. I realized as I was putting the track away (by the way is there a video showing you how to LEGO master builder it in?) where in the world am I going to store the timer/wiring etc? Is there another storage crate build with plans? This seems as if not more important than the track storage. Would l...

Re: Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller

Whoda- Holy Smokes the paint job on that! Amazing. This isn’t going to be a full size rig so I want to use Balsa to maximize the amount of COG weights from tungsten. This will be on a standard pinewood/Grand Prix wheelbase. I am able to relocate axles but the max dimensions iirc is 7” long x 3” tall...

Re: Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller

When I've built cars like that, I've avoided all that carving by building a balsa or basswood box. Where the corners are rounded, I first reinforce the corners with solid square or triangular pieces, and then sand the corner to round it off. That seems like more work? I’m pretty ignorant when it co...

Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller

https://i.imgur.com/C56iJZyr.jpg This is my inspiration for my second AWANA Grand Prix I’ve ever built. Plan is to take the given block from the kit and slice it down to 3/8”. That will be the base of it. I plan on hollowing it out with 3-4 cross members for rigidity and pockets for the tungsten we...

We have 100 wood blocks measuring 3/4"x1 1/2"x6".

I’m guessing this just high end centers the cars? What piece of lumber did you choose for this? I am thinking a 2x6 with 3/4” rips would work?

Pit Road - Car Parking

Ok, so I’ve used the search feature and found plenty of articles and posts, but all photos are gone and all links and dead or 404. What I am looking for is either a commercial version of or a how-to for parking the kids cars on pit row where they stay put and don’t hit the deck. Thanks for all y’all...
