Goodbye Hobby Lobby 40% off Coupon
Just saw this and figured I would pass it along to anyone who wants to stock up on derby supplies from Hobby Lobby before they discontinue their 40% off coupon at the end of February. I just picked up a little tungsten putty for my toolbox, might stop in and grab a some more weight before it is gone...

Re: Build a Winning Pinewood Derby Car
Speedster, I think you mean Coping saw with the Hobby Lobby Racer Tool Set. Still looks like a good set to get the car cut and at a good price, especially with the wood rasp and Coping saw together and the 40% off coupon. Now if it was a scroll saw for that price I would make room in my workshop, as...

Re: Wedge Angle
The angle we decided to use was about 85 degrees. we set the front of the car to be 1/8 inch tall and lined it up with the combination square at 85 degrees. Our line is right above the weight pockets (we are using cylinder tungsten weights from Hobby Lobby) and enough above our axles to keep their i...

Wedge Angle
Quick question: Is there any consensus on the best angle to cut a wedge car at. I have seen all of the templates, but they all seem to leave a lot of wood in the car. I figured with a combination square my scouts and I could mark an angle on the side to cut that would give us a much sleeker profile,...

Re: Pro Body Tool 3.0
I believe both the clear jig ($125) and the silver bullet pro ($225) drill canted holes at 3 degrees. Those prices are a bit much, but if the Pro Body Tool 3.0 is able to give you the same drill as the two more expensive jigs, it might be worth it at the lower price point. Plus the drill bushings al...

Pro Body Tool 3.0
Has anyone tried the DerbyWorx Pro Body Tool 3.0. https://www.maximum-velocity.com/product/pro-bodytool3-0/ Just saw it on maximum velocity and it is advertised to drill a negative 3 degree cant along with a raised wheel, and has drill bushing so the holes will not degrade. Could be a cheaper altern...

Re: Squaring the Block
Unfortunately my table saw quit on me and I can no longer get the replacement parts I need to fix it. I planned on trying to drill axle holes for the first time this year but may have to just use the pre-cut slots on the bottom again this year. My other thought was to try and use a belt sander to ge...

Squaring the Block
I just received this years cars for my scouts and took them out of the PWD boxes. Both blocks are horribly out of square. Measured with the calipers the height of one side of the pinewood block is .2 inches taller than the other side. Width and length both differ too but not by as much as the height...

Re: Homemade Concentricity Gauge
Well I think I solved my problem. Used a blank CD from a stack of CD-Rs I had lying around and was able to widen the inner circle and cut off the excess. I was able to reduce the rocking to a vary minor amount that I should be able to control by tightening the bolt. If anyone has any other ideas I a...

Re: Homemade Concentricity Gauge
Finally got around to making myself one for this year and beyond. I bought a new dial indicator from Harbor Freight with their 25% off Friends and Family coupon (valid through 12/6/20). Now that I have it, the hole I drilled at 11/32 from the long edge (1" from the short edge) seems to allow to...

Re: Far More Than Above and Beyond
I would have to second that sentiment, especially if we are talking about the same person that helped me and my girls last race season. I took the summer off but am glad to be back here and see he is still posting strong. Thanks for all the help and guidance that you have given me and my girls. ATTA...
