Re: Axle mounting

Yep, I'd recommend the eyebolts. Only one hole to drill per axle end that way.
Also, plastic toilet bolt covers from over in the plumbing department will cover up the sharp edges of the hardware.

Re: What do you think ? rules / regs/ building

I have a radical idea for Cubmobile competition that probably won't go over very well. Don't make it a gravity-powered event. Make it a kid-powered event. You can get strips of 1/16th inch thick natural rubber from McMaster-Carr http://www.mcmaster.com It's not abrasive, but it's very nonskid. Contact cement works well to attach it. Lowe's and Home Depot sell them for six or seven dollars for a 36 inch x 80 inch sheet. One side is very nice, the other side may have some cosme...

Re: Timing the runs

You might consider getting a replacement pair of safety beams for a garage door opener. They seem to be about fifty dollars or so.
If the lanes are no wider than 15 or 20 feet, they should work fine.

Re: Completed our first Cubmobile, had a blast!

(snippage) The total cost just to switch will be over $110. Wheels go from $5 each for the 861 (8") model to $15 apiece for the 11" wheels... due to lower demand for the larger wheels. The steel rod also goes from $7 for 3/8inch rod (36inch length) at Lowes to mail-ordered (McMaster Carr)...
