Re: Help need with a Derbytimer.com timer

well i guess i looked at the wrong kit - so since you have an ICSP just get that programmer and an ICSP cable http://microcontrollershop.com/product_info.php?products_id=2218 , download the hex file http://derbytimer.com/diy/bin/pnwd877_hex.zip. , unzip it and throw it on the PIC - if that doesn't f...

Re: Help need with a Derbytimer.com timer

PeteA, First off double check all of your ground connections, especially if you soldered any - that's something i learned the hard way. Get a magnifying glass and double check any soldering you have done - and while you're at it double check any soldering anyone else has done. The only way I could s...

Last Minute Rule Changes

All, Let me provide an example of two things: 1) too many cooks spoil the broth 2) STICK TO YOUR RULES ONCE PUBLISHED DISCLAIMER - this depiction is compiled from the statements of two people who witnessed this series of events. Last Saturday was my son's old pack's pinewood derby; during the awards...

Re: District Race - Location

Randy, One of the things we do is offer achievements - we do this primarily to keep the scouts entertained when they are not racing - but it's turned out to be a draw - we try to offer achievements they may not normally have an opportunity to get - the OA plans and runs it - so all I have to do is m...

Re: District Derby - Schedule

So who is the right person in the community to call and consult - local fire chief, zoning, police ??? I would love to have my event there - but I am not going to risk anything for it.

District Derby - Schedule

Ok - I know we've probably talked about this one before - but here goes. I am planning the district derby - the 'key 3' has decided that they want one scout from each 'year' per pack - ok so that's 5 per pack @ 20 packs - possibly 100 racers maybe another 100 spectators - oh and not to mention we're...

Re: Space Derby Finish Line Judging

I made a parallel timing device like one for the PWD - if you are using the standard track, you just build a rack that hangs over the finish line (like the one used to start the race, just without the ability to swing), you mount the emitter and sensors to pieces of 1x2 that mounts to the rack and w...

Race Replay

I know most of you will initially think this belongs in the Software section but it really is an electronics post. I have been toying with the idea of creating a component that takes the input from several (read three as of now) miniature video cameras (the spy type) and switches these inputs into o...

Re: HELP!! Attempting to make a Light Tree

I suppose one could use the same 12V LEDs and wire them up differently - I choose the way I did because I have a solenoid that has peak pull force @ 24V - I already had a power supply and didn't want to add another one. I was shocked as well when I hooked up my newly built tree and everything came o...

Re: HELP!! Attempting to make a Light Tree

Randy,

For my race day tree - all of the bulbs I used were 12V - you'll see in the schematic that I have four lights per pin - two each in parallel.

Re: HELP!! Attempting to make a Light Tree

A couple of notes on my circuit diagrams - Q1 is for a solenoid activated start gate - if you're not going to have one iqnore that part of the circuit - also - unless you are an expert at soldering (which I am not) don't order the IRL510S - it's a surface mount device - trying to hand solder a surfa...
