Re: Mothers polish

Not sure about M7, we use a similar process on bore. Chuck pipe cleaner in drill, coat small section with toothpaste work wheel back and forth at low speed. Repeat with dry pipe cleaner. We also burnish bore with gage pin prior to polish. We do the same except we are not to the level of burnishing ...

Re: Taking heat for last yrs win.....What to do?

This topic has really hit home this year. We have three boys in scouts and with a couple not yet in scouts we have many years of pinewood building ahead of us. My oldest is a Webelo and he has gone from his car not finishing when he was a Tiger to being the district champion this year. My boys have ...

Re: When to get started?

Take any opportunity possible to spend quality time with your kids. Just spending time with the boys is what makes pinewood derby so special. If your son is itching to start building I would go for it. You would be building it for the next season anyway so your legal. Also, nothing is stoping you fr...

Re: Mothers polish

Good call. I would not use it on the bore. We have used lots of different types of polishes for the bore but what works best for us is whitening toothpaste and the real type pipe cleaners (from tobacco stores).

Re: Mothers polish

Use Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish or Mothers Billet Metal Polish. Both should give basically the same results. We have been using the Billet polish over the last two years with great success.

Make sure to clean those axels well though afterward with denatured alcohol.

Outlaw Trophy Ideas

We are looking at adding an outlaw race this year and I was going to donate some trophies so it does not come out of the Pack budget. We want to make this a special race and want to come up with some special trophies. We were thinking about making them ourselves, however with everything else that we...

Re: Coriolis effect?

I re-read my comment. You would actually want your car stearing to the right if this effect was significant enough, right?

Re: Coriolis effect?

Tongue in cheek or not. If you could give me a somewhat valid reason why our cars would go faster if I wore a purple shirt, I would be going to the races in a purple shirt! :D I can't imaging this force on the car being significant enough to adjust the performance, however it never hurts to ride the...

Re: Polishing the tread

Were the same way.....if we can keep the graphite off the wheels we are all for it. We like to run smooth wheels with a clean tread to avoid slipping.

Thanks,

We tweak our weight down to 1/1000th's of an ounce using the tape method.

Re: Need some weight

If you didn't move the slots you should be fine. One thing that works great is lead tape. Go to [censored]'s or any golf pro-shop and they will have some. It is a cheap way to add weight up to the max. I would cut the tape and lay it on top of the car during weigh-in...keep cutting away at the tape ...

Re: Previously Race Car is a winner again. Is that a proble

I agree....we were shocked on how different the rules were between Packs. One year we did have to build a new car because of a rule change at districts. Now as a Pack we get the district rules first and just use them as our rules.

Re: Previously Race Car is a winner again. Is that a proble

We have right in our rules that cars raced in previous years cannot be raced. I do like puting a building date out there though. Our district has no rules that require you to use the same car as in the pack race though. I think that would be hard to enforce.

Re: Question for districts......wheels and weight

newarcher, When the rules state, "no lathing", they're not really banning lathes. What they are trying to ban are the V or H shaped profile tires. The requirement is to have a flat tread surface on the wheel. The rule is poorly written. The INTENT is to make sure the tire tread is flat. B...
