Re: Should I re-lube at districts?

Re-lube with one caveat, be sure it's well broken in, otherwise that first run or two may be a disaster. Fresh graphite needs to be broken down to perform.

Re: Invitational Race Format

Very cool Doc, I'm not sure how I managed to miss this post of yours. Bravo, and a tip of my hat to ya. K K, I offered this as evidence that it CAN be done, not fishing for kudos, although I appreciate the kind words. Logistically, a dedicated space with ample table (work area) and tools are a must...

Re: Invitational Race Format

K, My sons Boy Scout troop had a one day build. 6 hoursn no parents allowed, supervised by scout master and several eagle scouts. Did not have quite the array of tools you list, however did have acess to band saw and table saw in addition to hand and hand power tools. It came about as a result of se...

Re: Retired!!

Doct, I'm guessing we come from different ends of the political spectrum, so I'm done arguing, and, to borrow a phrase I'm sure you'll recognize, I'll give you the last word. ;) I didn't think we were arguing, only debating. I believe you will find an eclectic base here on DT. Many differing perspe...

Re: Retired!!

Doct, I don't think DO YOUR BEST is an extremist position. Nor do I. However the tone and tenor of your post, imo went beyond simply "do your best." I took umbrage with the following and felt it too harsh and crossed the line: This complainer ( we all know it's probably just one mom or tw...

Re: Retired!!

....This complainer (we all know it's probably just one mom or two) needs to be told to that Pinewood Derby is a race, and races have winners & losers. Those who do their best will not only do better in PWD, but also in life... and isn't that why we have a motto? Namby-pamby, politically correc...

Re: 4.9 vs 5.0

Thanks all for prompt confirmation of what I believed to be true, however didn't have data at my fingertips. Would have been a different race had he added .01! Car was lubed with Krytox, he "forgot" to break it in. Car was definitely getting faster, slowest run was first.

4.9 vs 5.0

In another thread I spoke of my experience with a cumulative time event. I won't rehash details. The issue today; at weigh in my buddies sons car weighed in at 4.9, I insisted he add the weight he disagreed, calling me a fanatic! Considering he missed final by a cumulative .008 I am convinced the ex...

Re: Remove wood from side of car for RR?

Whatever the final decision, Good Luck! Although, in my experience cross overs were allowed to race as cubs.

Have you checked the open class rules just in case? Post 'em here so we can have a gander and offer some ideas.

Re: What type of scheduling?

5J's, After my recent experience with a cumulative timed event I can, with certainty, suggest what you should avoid . I am in complete agreement regarding maximizing racing for the cubs. I was the derby chair in our pack for four years, the only issue I could not be persuaded to change was number of...

Re: A new Pinewood derby track

Very nice set up. Looks to be well made. Very nice work! :bigups:

You can add me to the start height curiosity list. Also the .03 variance in lanes is from fastest to slowest, what do you think is responsible?

Re: Cumulative time format

Doc, We do not get many complaints but we do get a lot of why did you do this or why did that happen ,from parents and visitors ... Thanks Stang. I've always felt, regardless of scheduling mehtod, the more transparent the better. Keep folks informed of exactly what's happening, less questions and h...

Re: Remove wood from side of car for RR?

If it doesn't require major surgery take the 1/16 off the DFW side. Since he will compete in open class (not sure why since he qualified as cub) check the rules, there maybe other areas you can tweak for more speed. Generally open classes have relaxed wheel and axle requirements, if so lighten 'em. ...
