Re: Taking heat for last yrs win.....What to do?
Well we won last year and took the top Raingutter race last fall. They all know I love pinewood derby so I am the "expert." One of the things I did this year was actually put rules out. Yep they didn't really have any, so they do now. (Set one) With in the rules I put tips and suggestions....

Re: Blue Lightning - a car that really lights up the track
that would be cool for the boys. this year I am making two cars that are heavy rear weighted for a expo show. When they hit the curve they should do a wheelie for the rest of the race. I have to make a wheelie bar with actual wheels to get them to the end, but it should be fun for them to see. I'll ...

Re: Pinewood Derby Podcast
As far as design judging, I think this year we will let the boys have 2 votes each (each must be for a different car). One small issue (esp. with the littlest ones) is that they like their own designs so much, we often nearly end with 12 way ties (1 vote each - their own). :D The way we handle that...

I agree that they shouldn't sell to a kid, but he might be "enhancing" the story and not really stealing his kids car. A real parent couldn't do it, even if it was bought. Probably making the story "better."

Re: Wood, wood, and more wood
I would say it is good. I think the spirit behind the rule is to keep other kinds of wood that are stronger from being substituted for pine. the funny thing is the other rules would allow for a steel pin to be used for strength...

Re: Boy with physical limitations
I would say that he should be able to do everything except the actual staging of the car and picking up the car from the track end. I would suggest he have a sibling (if there is one) or parent help with that exact part. He should be able to retrieve his car from the pits and take it back without a ...

Re: Rail Rider alignment question
I've gone through just about every thread and couldn't find the specific answer I was looking for, so here's another RR thread. One poster noted that he trimmed 3/32 off the front end on the side with the dominant wheel so that the car pulled inward from that wheel. Another poster said he trimmed o...

Speedbuggy,
I wish that too. How is your car coming along? I can't wait to see what you two have made.

Re: How to spot liquid lube (again)... please keep on topic?
Okay I will ask the question, is it that big of deal? I haven't tried oil yet but from the stories written, I'm not sure I would want to. It sounds like you have to get it just right for it to work. Anyway, I wouldn't be to excited about having to pull axles after a race to prove it was a good car. ...

Re: How to run a Raingutter Regatta? Help for the first time
here is a pretty good shot of the bottom mylar we added on the catamaran. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/woodyhavens/DSCF0529-1.jpg this shows the side being very shallow. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/woodyhavens/DSCF0531.jpg We also routed out the boat to reduce weight along with gi...

Re: How to run a Raingutter Regatta? Help for the first time
We had fun with split hulls, but I will tell you from experience that they blow away the regular boats. Mostly because they don't use the metal keel. This year we separated the classes at my suggestion. We still figured out a way to make the "stock" boat without the keel and did the same t...

Re: Rail Riding Delima
Why would they? same equipment and they really wouldn't know. Plus it would be about the same as a kid running the car backwards if it was slow the other way (I have seen this). If you painted the car basically the same on each side with only a mark for your kid to use, then no one would know. If an...
