Re: What do you do for track storage?

Instead of the traditional design, where the sections are layed in flat, one on top of another, and it's a pain to lift out individual sections, this one had the race sections slide in standing on their side. 3 Cub Dad I believe laying them flat helps keep the tracks from warping...though doubt tha...

Re: Time?

Note: There is an instructional video available where the author, with 30 years experience, creates a "World Class Pinewood Derby car in less than 45 minutes." Have you seen the video ? I have not. But I have heard that some prep work was missing from the video. Wheels and axles. But sinc...

Re: What do you do for track storage?

An easy way to reduce the weight of your storage case is to replace the plywood with "coroplast". A few years ago I made a frame with pine and lined the inside with coroplast. Lid is still plywood. Caster wheels on the bottom. Entire empty case weighs around 25 pounds. I needed two for my ...

Re: Time?

At our pack the cars are usually handed out as Christmas presents during the last meeting in December. Then we usually spend a bit of time each day during the 2 weeks holidays to design and build the shell of the car, then additional w/e, evenings for painting, wheels, axles, tuning, etc. Pretty muc...

Re: Track weights

Although I don't have specifics for the weights, I definitely can vouche that they are heavy. We have a 40 ft, 6 lane, aluminum Best Track that we stoore in two plywood boxes we built using provided plans from Best Tracks. It takes two of us to lift the boxes and a third to position them in a tight...

Re: Securing weights

Use the same method used to secure batteries in toys. Make an area for the cubes, attach the cubes to the plate/or if nice fit just place the cubes in the area and screw the plate to the car. Remove screws and plate to retrieve cubes. This is also the method we will be using to install batteries for...

Re: "Straight axles" vs "Bending axles"

Bent axle for cant- Pro's 1- more tuning ability. Cons- 1- less accurate <stuff deleted> Sporty Thanks for the feedback...though pondering over these two commentsr. If you have more tuning ability then your accuracy is only restricted by your tuning skills. With unlimited time, bent axles would be ...

"Straight axles" vs "Bending axles"

What are the arguments for "Straight axles drilled at an angle in the rear" vs "Bending rear axles"?

Re: grand prix software

If you require the Profilic driver, the USB to Serial driver I use for Windows 7 can be found at: http://www.prolific.com.tw/Eng/downloads.asp?ID=31. Select the PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v110.zip file.

Re: Rail Rider tool question

I have had success drilling in the slots using a stubby carbide #44

I would be worried about tape residue on my polished axles.

Re: chuck a wheel

By inserting a guage pin while you chuck you will have less chance of deforming the bore. Gives you a little more tolerance in your chucking pressure. Just need to figure out how to keep the pin from falling out...probably a little tape on top of the pin.
