Pinewood Derby Tools (SOLD)

I'm selling my pinewood derby tools used to prepare that block of wood and parts into a winning car. I have the following tools available, and would prefer to sell the whole lot as one. Everything is like brand new, so why pay the brand new price. Instructions are provided with the tools. Derby Worx...

Re: Cubmobile Timing

We bought a timer system from John in 2006 for our new cubmobile races and were very happy. I would recommend him to anyone interested.

I may even pick up another for myself to practice :D .

WOW Sporty, You've been busy.

I haven't visited Derbytalk in awhile, and your message got me curious. There has been a lot going on. I've also noticed a lot of SBD pics that I have not seen before.

Did you make up the Johnson Racing shirts?

Re: Opposing Spring Steering Aids

Teeeman, I don' tt have any current pictures of the steering setup. The boys are playing with the car, so I hate to tear it apart for pictures. Anyway, our crossmember is on top of the frame. The bolt which was welded to a plate, is set at a slight angle. The plate was bolted to the crossmember. The...

Re: Opposing Spring Steering Aids

We've always incorporated a trailing type steering setup that returns to center very well. We've never had any issues. Drives very straight.

We had our race Saturday (and Sunday) and...

We WON! My 8 yr old won his cubmobile race. The boys then pulled their cars in a parade. My 10 yr old and I headed for SBD practice and inspection. We had his car set up well, and he had the second fastest time of the day. Then the return trailer dropped his car. Bent the front axle, messed up our a...

Re: What do you think ? rules / regs/ building

Tim, don't take this the wrong way, but I don't like your idea. If there is only one car for a den, where is the father/son time in teaching your son to build the car? How do you govern the fairness in matching "teams"? Stonger kids, weaker kids, taller, shorter, etc. I could see a kid or ...

Re: What do you think ? rules / regs/ building

I as well would like to see the cubmobile accepted by the BSA like they do the PWD. But I'm also discouraged somewhat by the lack of interest. Even on this site, look at the traffic on this topic compared with PWD related topics. There's no comparison. I wish we could get many more view points, and ...

Re: What do you think ? rules / regs/ building

I agree that if all parts are purchased new by a family, then $100 is a realistic price for a cubmobile. The nuts and bolts add up quick. I also believe it could be easy enough to spend more than $100. But, I also feel that a resourceful individual/family/pack could find ways to cut the cost. We had...

Re: What do you think ? rules / regs/ building

I agree with a lot of the discussion. There are ways to decrease the cost of the cubmobile, but not substantially. Sponsorship could help, but we know that it can become hard to obtain. I would like an organization to take the cubmobile serious enough to make a national set of rules. Along with loca...

Re: What do you think ? rules / regs/ building

To add some more to the topic, I have been corresponding with a member of the AASBD (soapbox derby organization) and we stumbled upon the cubmobile. Here are some bits of the conversations for you to browse and add your thoughts. Biggest growth (according to my suggestion) is to adopt the cubmobile....

Re: Open Class ideas????

I thought I'd give a little update on our outlaw car. We won!! the second place car was actually heavier by 1.5 ozs. If I were to build it again, I would have gone to bigger axles and bearings. I built razor wheels which turned out very well. My son (tiger cub) got third place and is heading to dist...

Krytox???

I've searched, but the results come up with Miller-stephenson as a seller. They only sell to businesses. Does anyone sell krytox to individuals?

Re: Something New - PAINT

Our local Walmarts have the House of Kolor paints. They are in the toy section with the models. I have a variety of these, but I also have some left over paint from our cubmobile car we did last Summer. It was candy apple orange. It turned out very nice.
