Re: This years cars, in progress
Are you applying a lacquer or acrylic based clear coat over an orange enamel paint? That doesn't lead to good results. Enamel over lacquer or acrylic is OK but not the other way around. Randy Actually, it goes: acryllic over enamel over lacquer. Lacquer can only go over lacquer. Acrylic can go over...

Re: Building a Foam Car
I love the locktite gel glue. Stuff is easy to work with and bonds quick and exactly where you want it without running. I use it to glue on my calibration weight at registration. We bring the cars in about 136 grams then add, since my scale is not calibrated the same as the official scale. But this ...

Unless you have a perfect starting gate the is 100% repeatable, then time are really arbitrary from race to race, with respect to Pinewood derby races when winner are determine in th 100th of a second. Examples. I notice last year that if there was any tourque to dropping the gate that our starting ...

Re: Building a Foam Car
We did foam cars a few years ago before the tungsten plates were available. The kids were able to make more of a car but stay light on the weight. And we used the foam as a cavity to house the tungsten(95%) fishing weights(about 1/6th the price--Sorry Randy, I was broke that year and could not affor...

Re: Shaney Station Wagon 2009
I took the pineblock and cut it straight down the center into two "skateboards" - my concern with trying to cut it into three pieces was that I might be risking structural integrity - never made cars that thin. Additionally, I didn't actually define the "minimum" percentage of o...

Looks fast. You really extended that wheel base. If that block is 7" your back wheels will be hanging over. Just a thought, is your back axle too far back, preventing any weight to be added behind the wheels to give proper COM adjustment if necessary? Can't wait to have an update of how fast s...

A "jump at the gate" sounds like lightened wheels may be present to me as well. We are allowed to run lightened wheels - and doing a frame by frame analysis of video shows the light wheels have a clear advantage at the start. Was there any serious wheel inspection at check in? One of my p...

Re: Hate to see it happen.
Our district has the 4 wheel rule. I hate it. Even with the pro body tool it is hard to get all4 wheels. Especially after how much wood we remove from our cars. We will get a little flex in the car and have to tune them to run straight, which doesn't necessarly mean all 4 wheels in contact.

Emergency Lube help
Cars have to be completed tonight. Check-in is tomorrow. I use Hob-e-Lube. Running low so I sent my daughter to the local hobby store. They don't have any Hob-e-lube. She came back with Pine-Pro
Has anyone put Pine-pro on after Hob-e-lube or do I need to clean everything and relube?
