Re: CO2 Metric 500 Racing with Pitsco Kits

Hmmmm, we may just build some cars and run them without timing anyone. It'd be like launching Estes rockets, no contest, no competition, just build the things and watch them go. Maybe after doing that, we can get with someone with the timing equipment. Well, I know what we're doing after our final P...

CO2 Metric 500 Racing with Pitsco Kits

Sorry if I'm "off-topic", but I just discovered these at my daughter's school! How could I have survived on planet Earth for 44 years and not know about "Pinewood Derby on Steroids"??? http://http://www.science-of-speed.com/images/products/13218-dragster_kit.jpg Just when I was g...

New "Test" Car Idea for Next Year

Here's an idea: Make a PWD car that's actually designed to lose! Ever have or see a late entry or odd car with no one to race against it? Usually, so it doesn't go down the lane alone, the race organizers will put some other car against it (maybe a dedicated underweight test car or a car picked at r...

Re: Blew it at the District - If it Ain't Broke, Don't Fix I

I never really explored or understood rail riding before taking a look at all the posts at this site. It occurs to me that the Batmobile was probably a pretty good non-wobbling rail rider that ever-so-slightly pulled toward the lifted wheel. This was accidental because I didn't understand rail-ridin...

Re: Wobble

I think I got it, tried adding .5 oz of weight over dom. side rear and had no change. I then noticed non dom. side rear wheel had a little vibration in it so I swapped it with the raised wheel and WA LA, the oscillation diminished. I was then able to toe-in my DF to ride right. Before the more toe-...

Re: Blew it at the District - If it Ain't Broke, Don't Fix I

Racefan, I personally saw your cars there at District and thought they were awesome. It's always a real treat when someone does spend the time on the cars and they turn out so well. I would have liked to see a category like "Best Adult Design" or "Best Adult Craftsmanship" becau...

Blew it at the District - If it Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It!!!

At the pack race, I had a really cool adult Batmobile car that I built. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3028/2405262649_ddfe2a4975.jpg The times were the best I'd ever seen when I tested it before the official races. I rolled it along the gym floor and noticed it pulled to the right. So, like the gen...

Re: Bizzare Parental Behavior - CAUTION - Very Negative!

Oh yeah, I know what you mean about previous cars. I did put that in the rules that they should be new cars. I reiterated that we operate on the honor system & a trophy isn't worth anything unless you earned it honestly. Absolutely, that one should be in the rules. ....& thanks guys for the ...

Re: Bizzare Parental Behavior - CAUTION - Very Negative!

the most critical piece of information you can provide is a blow up picture of a BSA wheel and Axle.... Now that will be amusing! You're on! I will provide that to the person who inherits the job next year! It's like that saying, "We wouldn't have brought it up if it hadn't been an issue in th...

Re: Bizzare Parental Behavior - CAUTION - Very Negative!

If every webelo showed up the total would have been 122. I don't recall the actual number of racers. It was much less, of course. Actually, there were no real complaints except for the inappropriate insinuation that we cheated. I'm probably being a bit thin-skinned but it ticks me off to hear stuff ...

Re: Bizzare Parental Behavior - CAUTION - Very Negative!

Glengary, thanks for the backup! Actually, my son is moving on to Boy Scouts so my time is up as PWD coordinator. I wouldn't let any of the sour-grapes types deter me. That's also a lesson, I want to pass on to the kids....continue on through adversity. Don't quit! My advise to future coordinators e...

And my all-time predictable favorite: When my son won first place......he and I were accused of cheating!...yes, cheating! Yeah, thanks! I know how you feel. At our race this year, I was just standing around waiting for the festivities to get under way and noticed the guy running the race seemed to...

Re: Bizzare Parental Behavior - CAUTION - Very Negative!

The lack of your own tools does not mean you can not have a workshop. We have 89 kids in our pack and schedule workshops by having any parent who has tools they can bring, bring them! The workshop runs from 9am until 5pm and the scout leaders rotate time to help the scouts with their cars. I didnt ...

Re: New BSA "High-Speed" Graphite?

OK....sacrificed another lunch break, took the car apart, got fingerprints and graphite everywhere and re-lubed with Hob-e-lube. There's no comparison. I didn't do a timed test or anything but the wheels spun longer, quieter and smoother with hob-e-lube. The parts I burnished, rims, bore, body are n...
