Re: Approx. how much time do you spend on the build of a car
That's great. I did a full on soak wheels in sailkote test. :-) It was a test and it did melt the wheels :-) Ummm ... yes, I can see that melting 'em! :) So far as I can tell, all the volatile, wheel melting components of Sailkote evaporated as the axle coating dried, leaving the wheels happy to be...

Re: Approx. how much time do you spend on the build of a car
Glad it is working for you. I sold mine when it melted the test wheels... Did you apply to wheels? Or axles? On the axles, not on the wheels! Fully cured before assembly. About 3 days from alignment to race. Will recheck setup Tuesday in preparation for Districts. I was not satisfied with the wheel...

Re: Mitigating negative cant problems for taller bodies
When I do a car like this (and it is often) I cover with plywood from the hobby store. I think it is 1/32" I use tungsten for weight though... But the plywood paints better than the pine... I think I'll be going with masking tape on the bottom and white vinyl (from a printable packing label) o...

Re: Approx. how much time do you spend on the build of a car
Yes. Back in our graphite days, we used it on axles with great success. I never tried pledge with graphite. I tried Sailkote with oil, but it didn't worked as well as jig-a-loo and other similar products. I wonder how much polishing helps when the polished surface is covered with Sailkote (or lemon...

Re: Mitigating negative cant problems for taller bodies
So, I've been chewing on this some more. I want to limit the bore holes to those done straight down into the top of the car. I feel that this would be simpler, and could be done with a hand drill (and a steady hand) as opposed to resorting to a press. I also want to avoid external weights atop the ...

Re: Approx. how much time do you spend on the build of a car
Congratulations to the Team, Stan. I'm curious about everything. Shape of car, type of ballast, CM, stock wheelbase or not, 3 wheels, wax, etc. Do you race on the same type track you own? I use a tuning board to give me a starting point but it never ends up the same after I run it down the track. M...

Congrats Stan!Stan Pope wrote:0.020 sec faster than the 2nd fastest, a sleek car with 3 wheels and a peg. I don't know if any of the cars got on a track prior to start of races ... Anyone manufacturing Wood Tracks for sale?
Anyone manufacturing Wood Tracks for sale? I found one that is edge guided but I was hoping for more the center rail plan similar to the scout plan. A best track is $750.00 so something less would be good.

Re: Mitigating negative cant problems for taller bodies
Key to relocating the COM is reducing the weight of the wood... Cutting the car to 3/8" (I cut to 5/16" slab and drill holes but that may be a bit too tight for beginners). Weight can be added on top of this to obtain any desired COM. (Ideally some of the weight would drop to the axle heig...

Re: Mitigating negative cant problems for taller bodies
This is a major issue and why I advocate thin cars. (Or at least one reason
You will need to taper the sides or create little axels on the side. Much easier to cut the wood at 3/8" and add exposed weight to the top....

Re: Approx. how much time do you spend on the build of a car
Just curious to get a consensus of how much time is spent on average building a car. I say this because one of the dads says he had about 18 hours into the car, which seems excessive to me. I imagine our car this year (which we did in a hurry) we probably had under 6 hours invested. We did re-use w...
