Re: Fast Cars Under 5oz.
OK, here is the skinny on the light weight cars. I went and looked at the pictures of the cars, counted all of the coins, Pine Car stick-on weight segments, and other various Lego pieces and rebuilt them on my scale at home. It was pretty easy to do, there is not a lot of hidden mass in a quarter, j...

Fast Cars Under 5oz.
This past Saturday we raced and did well (undefeated in den and then all wolf dens) until the pack finals. My son’s car was beaten by two cars. (they placed 1st and 2nd over-all) At the spaghetti supper that evening we had all the cars on display and I was able to look over a few. The two that beat ...

Re: PTFE...cautiously optimistic...
Elmer’s Slide-All Well I attempted to try this new lube but backed out at the last moment. (That kinda sounded like Jeff Gordon giving a post race interview) After applying it we did a spin test, there was a lot of chatter and vibration that wasn’t there before applying the Elmer’s. We ran the new c...

Re: PTFE...cautiously optimistic...
Sssnake-I haven’t finished the wheels and axles yet, working on them now. I have the prepped axles in the alcohol bath and then on to the Elmer’s bath. Our race is tomorrow morning. As for spin time, I don’t rely on that too heavily. I use it to look at the wheels on the axles to see if there is any...

Re: PTFE...cautiously optimistic...
Sssnake I’m trying Elmer’s Slide-All based on your recommendation. My question is what do you use on the car body side at point of possible hub or wheel contact? In past, when using graphite we would use paint on graphite and then buff it in to the paint. We would also cone the car body. I’ve run ou...

Re: First Teardown
But I would think that if you only had one tap you could alternate which side you started on, thus creating the missing tap. He said not true, you need both RH & LH taps. Yup! Your Dad is right. Think about putting nuts on bolts... does it matter which end of the nut goes on the bolt? (Hint ......

Re: First Teardown
Question??? Gavin, did you use a right tap and a left tap. What side of the wheel bore did you start on? Those questions answered might help you. Hmmm... I don't understand what difference it would make which side of the wheel you start on? Please expand on the idea. :) I think you want the L.H. ta...

Re: First Teardown
I did some unscientific experimenting with tapping wheels. I used tapped wheels for 2 cars and untapped wheels for the other two. The two cars with tapped wheels were slower, so I gave up on the idea. Were the cars otherwise equal? No. First Off-Great Job Sparky on the teardown. Question??? Gavin, ...

Racer X & Splinter Sprinter, Since we're talking about Mississippi River Rats, thought I'd throw in. Born in Granite City, Father was from Alton, Mother was from Murphysboro. There must have been some pollution along the river that made us all Pineheads. Richard-You’re absolutely right....

Re: Level playing field for all BSA PWD events nation wide.
To me, that's what makes the PWD so interesting -- Shall we deprive future generations of the thrill of discovery? Vive la difference! TDean could not have said it better. This is what keeps us all coming back, the differences, variants and the small amount of rules. At the risk of sounding melodra...

Re: Needle Files
What is a "needle file"? Gavin or anyone else, one good place to look for needle files is www.micromark.com. They have a great catalog or you can buy online tons of cool little tools for close work. The Swiss Pattern Needle file set, 12 pcs. for $12.95 is great. I‘ve had mine for 5 years ...
