Check out Andy Lester's web site. He has Balsa fenders already made or you can make your own. Balsa fenders are used by many of the top league racers at PDDR and PWD.

Re: What track is this?
That is definitely a Piantedosi track. We have one just like it. And yes, the weights should be near the curved area of the track. I measured our's once and I think from pin to sensor it was 28' 6". I would like to change out the hand-flipped starting control someday. Anybody have a recommendat...

Re: 3/8 Lead
Reddriver, I like your "hockey puck" description of my process. That is what they end up looking like. The options are endless in diameter and thickness. I just found that 1 3/8" was as big as I could go with the diameter to fit in a 1 3/4" body. I made a variety of thickness for...

Re: 3/8 Lead
Here is another idea. Take some 1/4" to 3/8" thick pieces of pine about 7" long by 1 3/4" wide (old chassis) and using a 1 3/8" forstner bit, dill 3 holes. Melt your lead (from the local tire co.) and pour it into the holes so that it comes just to the top of the hole. Let i...

Re: What group do you race with?
Millettbbc,
I race in our annual Awana race held in Jan. and then our Regional Awana race held in Feb. The regional race is very competitive and includes several churches. I have won the leaders race there the last few years.

Re: Lathing Wheels Question
Thanks for the link to the low cost method. I my have to try it. I have tried using an exacto knife and hand drill with various results. I use Awana wheels which are softer. Hopefully it won't take me an hour or two per wheel. How do you guys balance you wheels? Anybody have much success with the ba...

Re: What's the best type of axle.
I am not familiar with the old BSA axles but they appear to be about the same diameter as the Awana axles. You will find the Awana axles alot easier to prep. I usually go 800, 1500, 2000 and then use Mother's Mag. polish. Some guys skip the 800 and just start with the 1500.
Good Luck,

Re: What's the best type of axle.
If there are no restrictions on the type of axles, try Awana axles with your BSA wheels. They are slightly larger in diameter and give less "wiggle room" no matter if you're using graphite or oil. Also, do a search on using oil with grooved axles. Seems to be a choice of many that can use ...

Re: Fast car , But kid friendly
Take a camera with you to Districts and get some ideas there. Talk to some of the builders there as well. Take notes as you view other cars. Don't try to rely on your memory when you sit down to plan your next car. Have some physical data to refer to.

Re: Awana Grand Prix race
Chad, How many tracks do you have available? We use two different tracks of 4 lanes each. We run a similar format based on points. Each car races in each lane one time. A car must earn 12 point to advance to the next round. We run the girls on one track and the boys on the other. We also run the lea...

Re: Rail Riding on an Old Standard Awana track +
We have raced in Awana for several years. We are fortunate to have a regional to shoot for in Mid-Mich. They use 4 tracks which are all built to Awana specifications(30' pin to finish). RR is possible on these track. Wheels can be modified as long as they remain the standard width and diameter. We l...

Re: Track Times
Doc, Thanks for the times. Looks like I have a lot more possible speed to work towards. I think it's time to try Krytox. We do have a Test & Tune before our Awana Regional/Finals in March. I think I'll try some RR then. Thanks for all your input. Sporty, Any ideas to gain more speed would be app...

Re: Track Times
Thanks to all who responded to my earlier post. I would like to see those times from your race Doc. To answer your question Doc, I have used both Hob E Lube and Nye Oil(not together of course). This year's car had the oil. COM is at 3/4" and I try for dead on alingment. If I error it is to have...
