Re: Tonight is axels and wheel prep. Remind me...

-Wheel prep with novus2 scratch remover. How long do I spin with ducktapped drill a craft store pointed q-tip in each wheel hub? How many seconds? As for cleaning the novus2 out. I have wayer obviously. I also have a very high proof alcohol in a spray bottle from CVS. Would this be a good step to g...

Re: So I sprayed my axels with duport chain saver...

The spray doesnt fan out in a mist it comes out in a stream. The axels look terrible from getting blasted with a heavy stream. Big globs of the dupont chain saver on axels. It is supposed to be like this then I wipe off after it dries or should I have sprayed some on a flat surface dipped brush in ...

Re: Kits are missing wheels and axles (nails)

Andy, I know the 2nd big rig kits were intended for the 2010 racing season an all.. to mark the 100th anniversary to scouting. ( And I'm not picking on you in any way here.. But are you sure there actually from 2010.. And not 2009. ) According to the 100th anniversary semi truck topic .. You also pi...

Re: Inexpensive Weights

Cool idea Randy!
Another alternative for some inexpensive weights..
May be to use 3/8" steel round rod that can be cut to size and found in most hard ware stores as well.

Re: Wheel Bore Sealer

Speedster that's the older liquid glass! Simple Green? Have you been talking to Whoda? OK, I'm kidding. Ok yes.. I use the all-purpose simple green lemon sent cleaner for my wheel prep as it safe for use on plastics. It is my very first step to cleaning the wheels and bores free from dirt, dust, oil...

Re: Polishing AWANA axles

I like your Ideas Guy's! You might also try turning the axles in your drill in this manner.. to help cut down on the sanding shards or small burrs left from grinding the axles with sanding paper. counter-clockwise for the right side axles. .. And then clock wise for the left side axles. http://www.l...

Re: Use the Long truck nail

Cool idea there Speedster! I find the 1 3/8" long 18 wheeler axles to be very soft and bend easy being zinc coated and steel. Might be tough for most to file down the (0.087) axle shaft to ( .086) as well. Would a 2 1/4" .086 hardened drill rod work better for this application ? https://timesavers.c...

Re: How to oil axels

Some krytox 100 bottles come with an eye dropper style applicator and some bottles will have the 5 ml needle tip applicator. If your bottle has the eye dropper style applicator .. one drop of oil out of it is two much oil at once. Id look look at dumping the krytox 100 oil over into a clean bottle w...

Re: Derby Repair Tool Kit

Grate looking tool kit there Randy.. looks like you've got it covered! I don't know if i'd ad a bottle of ca glue to the tool kit or not.. because it might get messy if it leaks out however it might be handy to have one for Glueing weights back on. And maybe i'd toss in one of those fancy finger nai...

Re: Car body finger nail polish around wheel step. How to?

Hi Sleestack, Are you going to run the car with a graphite lube or an oil lube? For a graphite lubed car some say it is best to go.. with bare wood and graphite rubbed in the area's where the wheel hub meets the car body. Here's a topic that talks about it more. http://www.derbytalk.com/viewtopic.ph...

Re: Personal experiences with "slots required" rule

Speedster! My Personal experiences with slots and using bent back axles: I don't like using the bent axles on the back any more.. Why? Because there hard for me to get aligned just right.. And it's way to easy to get them knocked out of alignment any more. If the car takes a hit on one of the back w...

Re: Personal experiences with "slots required" rule

Speedster, I'm not seeing the gap gauge on the axle guide tool in the pic eagle posted for you! However you did say that you let the kids hold an old credit card while pressing the axle in hand over hand method..with the drill press and setting the wheel gap. That's a really cool idea to get the kid...
