Re: Information on Derby Car Supplies by Roadway Racers?

Hello, Racer X, I didn't word that in enough detail. I should have said, "They are Replicas of Derby Worx tools. For that I apologize. We do a lot of workshops. I have been involved with the Pinewood Derby for the past 35 years and still am very active. Recently we worked with a Carpenters Union and...

Re: rattle from tungsten weights

Nice pictures. OK, I understand the weighting and shape of the cylinders. 7/8" COG is a great choice and you will have enough weight on the dfw to keep the car on the rail. Great choice of model. It has already helped you with the COG. We all have to use the nails that came in the kit. Rail riding i...

Re: rattle from tungsten weights

You say you drilled three 3/8" holes on each side of the rear axle. I don't understand what 3oz round tungsten weights are. Are you using 3/8" x 1/2" tungsten cylinders? If so, I'm surprised you got them into a drilled 3/8" hole. That usually requires a drill bit 25/64" so the 3/8" cylinder will fit...

Re: First Time Feedback

You're on the right track if speed is your goal. Let's have some Fun. I'm going to build a car that will follow all The Laws of Physics and we'll do it fast. 5 ounces = 141.75 grams. I will use grams. Go to Hodges Hobby House and find the wedge body block, Slim SSW, Slotted Stock Wheelbase, $2.45. T...

Re: First Time Feedback

Howdy ERicj, Welcome to Derbytalk. WHAT A VIDEO! THAT WAS REALLY COOL! I was very surprised to see the distance among the cars. That was sad. Your raised wheel did not negatively affect the cars performance in any way. It actually saved 25% of the Rotational Energy formerly shared by all four wheels...

Lovers of Design category

Do you have this? Erie Council, Northwest District invites 2 cars from each Den for "Design" category and 2 cars from each den for "HIGH TECH DESIGN" category. High Tech design is defined as any car having working lights or a paint scheme that is UV lights reactive. Is the Northwest District the 1st...

Re: Information on Derby Car Supplies by Roadway Racers?

The holes and actually the tool itself lines up perfectly with the tool made by Derby Worx. The only visible difference is the HL tool is not as smooth and shiny as the Derby Worx tool. I have no idea if the HL tool was made from the same grade of aluminum as the Derby Worx tool. Eagle, a Gentleman ...

Re: Information on Derby Car Supplies by Roadway Racers?

The tools are Derby Worx tools but made in China. Hobby Lobby raised the price but still cheaper because there is no shipping cost. Hobby Lobby has a nice display of the tools but right now the Route 20 store is out of most things that are popular. They sell a wedge block of wood that is identical t...

Re: Information on Derby Car Supplies by Roadway Racers?

I checked out Hobby Lobby today. They were very low on a lot of Derby things and out on many others. There order is arriving tomorrow the same time we are predicted to get over 11" of snow and freezing rain with high winds. I live about 600 yards from the shores of Lake Erie and if it's a Nor Easter...

Re: Derby Magic Bluetooth Timers

I agree 100%. We always use the KISS method. As my Computer Genius Brother Joe once said to me, "Electronics are Great when they work".
Boy, Oh Boy. The Pinewood Derby is no time to be having any kind of a problem.

Re: Opinions Wanted: Critique my Rail-riding explanation

Good Morning, Everyone This is a Great Topic. I especially like Vitamin K's post on Monday January 25, 2016, 10:28PM. I love the Physics of the Pinewood Derby. I enjoy reading everyone's opinion on how to make a block of wood with some plastic wheels go down a hill fast using gravity. I respect ever...

Re: Information on Derby Car Supplies by Roadway Racers?

OK, I have received my answer - Almost. Thank you, Kindintentions. The Pine Car Axle Slot Jig, $13.99 is the Derby Worx tool, "Pro-Body tool Axle Drilling Guide." The picture of the Axle slot jig was angled so I could not tell if the hole for a raised wheel was at the other end. There is no mention ...

Re: Information on Derby Car Supplies by Roadway Racers?

Eagle, you might be correct and perhaps some day we'll find out. I have never seen that tool in any of the Big Box stores. Our scout shop does not carry that tool. I have not been to Hobby Lobby yet so maybe they do carry that tool. I'll email Kindintentions and perhaps my curiosity will be satisfied.
