Well done Team T!
Looks like whoever the "S" wolf family is will catch you next year ... They're pretty fast too.
Our PWD isn't until early March. Let me know if you want to run with us.

On our spoon cars we've considered removing more weight on the underside, but never had a need to do so. If you've taken enough weight off during shaping you should be able to get 24 cubes in without doing that.
Nice scrollwork.... I guess you have that screen name for a good reason

Looks like a Citron to me...
How are you drilling your axel holes these days? Silver Bullet?
Can you show us a few bottom shots of your weighting scheme?

Re: Tungsten plates
One layer of plate weights is usually ok, but more may be pushing it. Most metal tracks only require 1/4" of clearance. Old school wood tracks may require the full 3/8ths.

Rail runner. I would actually add a little more steer in this situation.

In my area the 1/64th is only available at a few hobby shops. You have to go to a store that sells RC air plane materials to get it.

Re: tight grain or wide grain block
Good information. I personally don't worry too much about the grain spacing. I do look for the lightest block to start with and look at the grain orientation. I go for blocks that are as close to quartersawn as possible (this the most dimensionally stable orientation). As far as weighing kits... I t...

I agree the table must be level before drilling... To test the alignment of my drill press table relative to the spindle. I like to use a bent piece of wire. You put two opposing 70 degree bends in a piece of coat hanger. Chuck one end in the spindle and then rotate it by hand around. This will show...

I have one of these... it's one of my favorite tools in my workshop. We've used it for years to mark out PWD cars.

Mine is related to my other passion.... tennis. Until I had kids, I played tennis 2-3 times a week and had been traveling all over the world to watch tennis in the "dream" locations. The D is my first initial.

Re: New car for districts
Congratulations, on the win and on keeping them from cancelling the event. I'm sure you'll make it a great event next year. Our district trophies last year and this year were pretty weak. They were donated by the council scout shop... so the smaller BSA trophies. If you let us race in your open clas...

Re: Team Topspin 2014 Line-up - District Results Added
We had districts today each boy won their respective ranks (Tiger and Bear). The older son placed second (gold car) and younger son placed 5th overall. The overall champion was a kid we beat last year. He's getting help from a league racer.... so he always comes with a strong car. They enforced whee...

Nicely done. Did you learn anything new from Carbon Fiber that you applied here?
