Re: Which wheels to cant & which to keep straight
I have learned Troy Thorne's book "Build a Winning PINEWOOD DERBY CAR" is available at Michaels. It is the same as "Building the Fastest PINEWOOD DERBY CAR" with car designs and a few other things left out. It is a good book for a beginner and is readily available. Cost is $9.99.

Re: Which wheels to cant & which to keep straight
rferrin, Welcome to Derby Talk. You will want to narrow the wood 1/16 inch at the DFW (Dominant Front Wheel). Bend the axle 1 1/2 degrees and give the wheel POSITIVE Camber. Be sure to mark the head of the nail with a sharpie when you make the bend so you know where the bend is. I start with the mar...

Why 1 /1/2 and 2 1/2 degrees?
The suggested cant on front and rear axles seems to be 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 degrees. What would a less, or more, cant do on the front? On the rears? The new tool, the Pro-Axle Bender, will enable you to set the degree you choose. Would a car run faster with 1 degree, 2 degrees, 3 degrees of cant on the r...

Will your new line of cars include 3/8" thick Pinewood bodies? Do you cut slots?

It's obvious the Noskills Team doesn't lack energy. Those cars are beautiful and I know they're going to be fast. Best of Luck.

Re: Newbie back again
Stan, davet stated he is nervous about the death wobble. I think it would be On Topic if you talked about the rear end shifting left and right. davet has been building straight runners. Is there anyway to stop the shifting?

Re: Newbie back again
I'm curious about the "Death Wobble" that folks have mentioned. I'm assuming this refers to the back of the car swinging from left to right. Is this caused by something in the rear wheel alignment? Does this happen only when rear axles are bent to get cant?

Re: Newbie back again
If you do that would you not change the camber and Toe on the rear wheels when you lift the front end to install the DFW?

Re: Thin car blues
Noskills, if you set the toe at 2" over 4', will the car run faster? I think you race on an aluminum track and it probably is very smooth.

Re: A Tale of Three Cars
Mr. Noskills, as I recall reading in a different post you said, "When I build a car for me it's all about speed". It would appear Little Miss Toback is on that same path. Best of Luck to her.

Great looking car. Do you have photos showing how that little beauty went together? Did you design this on paper before you start cutting any wood? How many hours did you have in building this car?

Re: Will Chrome monokote affect timing light?
davet, your team is going for speed, speed, speed. You have read a concern from gpraceman. Cars are somehow capable of crossing that finish line at the exact same time. If you explain to your son what you have learned, the chance he's taking, and he still wants chrome then so be it. I wish you the B...
