Re: Changing the racing schedule and trophies

There are a couple ways of doing the scheduling. I personally like running the boys only racing their peers during the rank races, but like to use the master scheduling option so that it will mix the races, so at any time, you could still be racing, and there is not a big wait after your 6 races. I ...

Re: How to run a full system test without a start switch

I basically did what you are trying to do to test as well. I basically just took home the finish line companents and hooked that up. When you run, you can manually just click, ready timer, and it should work. I simply ran my hand under the finish line and race replay would kick off like it should, a...

While I am no expert on these types of tracks (or any really!), there have been several conversations. I would do a search for supertrack here on the forums, as that is a commercially available side guided track, and should be relevent. I found many discussions about the same things, and you may fin...

Re: How many lanes is too many?

Since you are going by rank, then 8 lanes is definately overkill imo. Whatever lanes you use, you want everybody to race in every lane if possible to keep it the most fair, as some lanes will be faster than others. In the dens with 8, all of them would race each other 8 times and would get boring by...

Re: The new 2.5 oz triangular tungsten canopy

My older son actually used the 3.5 oz version for 2 years and the second year was one the fastest cars he has made. Last year he used 1/4 cubes embeded into a flat 1/4 thick car and, even though he put more time and effort into it, it was never really faster than his car from the year before. As far...

Re: Food Dehydrator to dry wood or paint?

I think the general consensus on baking (or using a dehydrator) to dry out the wood is frowned upon due to the difference being miniscule in terms or weight, and the possibilities of problems (warpage being the main) are to much for the minimal benefit. As far as paint goes, I know my wife would not...

Re: How many lanes is too many?

I personally think that 8 lanes would be overkill in your situation (in most situations imho). The boys that have really slow cars typically know it and whether it is 3,4,8 or 20 lanes, does not really matter. While they seem upset, that can be a great opportunity to offer them help next year if the...

Re: "Fun" race starting method?

That is awesome looking, and a great way to get the kids more involved. I am sure they have a blast doing that, and having the 2 piece start (foot pedal, button) is an awesome idea. Our pack will never get there, as there is too much of "that is how we always do it", but I would love to do...

Re: No paint?

I would think it would actually be counter-productive, as it would be more difficult to get as smooth of a surface without paint, and the difference in wind resistance would more than make up for any perceived difference (not that I think there would be anyways) of the difference in material. Paint ...

Re: Pinewood Derby Rules

I guess my question is, why have the rule of 4 on the floor? It has been shown time and again that it is tough (especially with the slots) to actually get 4 on the floor. There are numerous posts about people putting their first car together and not being able to get all 4 door, and wondering if tha...

12. Starting Line: No car may protrude past the starting line for any reason. If any part of the car goes past the starting line before the gate is dropped, it will be disqualified. NOTE: Most starting gates make contact with the car at the "front, center" point, and with a tolerance of 3...

While somebody that has absolutely no tools and no knowledge may have a difficulty making an extended wheel base, what are they going to do, just use the block as is (since they have no tools)? Anybody that can shape the car can easily make an extended wheel base, as all they reall need is a small h...

Re: Pinewood Derby Car Carrying Case by Revell

We actually found a pretty easy (and fairly cheap) option for my kids' cars for transport. I had a poker chip case that was very cheap (but made to look like a strong metal briefcase). For 2 cars, it worked awesome because the slots for the chips actually cupped around the wheels, and held them perf...

Re: Rangemaster requirements

I know this probably does not help you, but I have been through the training twice (gotta recertify every 2 years) for rangemaster in the Northern Star Council (Minnesota) before we moved. The program was 4 hours for BB Gun, 4 hours for Archery on the same day. I am not sure how you get certified to...
