Re: Time to sort the wheels - most efficient way ?

If it were me, I'd polish an axle and do the slow spin test first. Cull them into good, OK, and bad. Then, if you wish, measure the bores on the good ones to find great ones. Some wheels will probably stick out as running really smooth. Save them for the rears. I'm in agreement here, although somet...

Re: An issue of ethics

My son and I decide to jump into this with both feet. No prob, I want to build a 2 lane test track in my basement. However, I realize most kids will never have a PWD tack their basement much less built to specs same as our pack's track. So we like PWD, so we build cars months in advance, and test t...

How far? While the amount seems to vary somewhat, I believe it is commonly described in terms of miles ROTFL.

...We're constantly having to readjust the laser to line it up. Has anyone solved this stability problem yet? We are looking at doing something with this issue with our track. While it generally performs fine, there are times when we've first set up the track that it gets really finicky until we re...

Re: Open Class mods?

...I noticed that the regular wheel will ride the rail at two points where as the razor or wafer wheels will have a large surface area to ride the rail. I noticed that my attempts at razor wheels did not produce a large advantage. It's hard to tell from the picture above but the inside surface actu...

Re: Open Class mods?

Anyone here run a car in an open class category in your Pack or District derby? What kinds of mods are allowed by your race rules and which ones do you take advantage of? A couple of weeks ago I participated in an "Adult Race" fundraiser that a local pack put on in conjuction with (perfor...

Re: Frustraded With PWD and Need Help

i truly appreciate all the advice and honestly want to make sure that no one thinks that i am critical of the boys who won or their father for being so involved. what i was critical of was the method used throughout the day. there just has to be a better way. FWIW I didn't take anything you wrote a...

Re: Does Graphite Expire?

I had the same thing happen 3 or 4 years ago. While doing some test runs I heard a load crunch and the car hesitated. My wife and I looked at each other astounded! Then it happened again a couple races later. The consistency did look different like it settled out. I threw the tube away and bought a...

Re: Handling bad wheel for strict rules

And join the PWD committee and get that rule changed!!! Agreed. Most often a rule like that was put in place to prevent a particular outcome (lightened wheels, Pine Car kit wheels, etc.) without much thought to the unintended consequences when it comes to poor quality wheels "from th...

Re: Handling bad wheel for strict rules

If you had rules that required to use of wheels that you were issued (cant go to store and buy more) - and all 4 wheels must touch the track - how would you handle this? where on the car would you place this bad wheel? this is for a non-rail riding car - BSA wheels Thanks in advance 1) Forced to us...

Re: Frustraded With PWD and Need Help

Kind of in a rush, but let me give you my initial quick thoughts. First off, the fact that you and your boy enjoyed the time together building the car is the main thing IMO, don't ever let the outcome of the race or any "controversies" eclipse that experience for you both. Now, to your fru...

Re: Does Graphite Expire?

Not sure that it expires, but I do believe I've had a tube "go bad" on me before. I was testing some cars about a year ago and the times that I was getting seemed to be a couple hundreths slower than they "should be". As I was re-applying some graphite (in this case Hob-E-Lube), ...

Re: My Kids cars

Well it was really heavy on the tail but I thought the weight was supposed to be as far back as possible. I guess I have some more reading to do. If you use the search feature and search on "slots", you will find some good discussions about moving the weight back, which slot to use in the...

...As soon as they released the cars ours pulled out front. Then it started wobbling like crazy  Nice job on the appearance and glad to hear your boy was happy with it's performance. I wouldn't be so sure, though, that your boy's dropping of the car is what led to the wobbling on the flats (al...
