Re: Got screwed at Districts...Big Time!!!!

I have to tell you that our District race was done in simiar fashion. Once checked in the boys and parents could NOT touch the cars again - no graphite between races - no nothing. The only thing that they did differently was to allow the boys within rank to sit alongside the track and watch their c...

Re: Team 'B-Man" - 1st derby - 1st SET of wins - THANK YOU A

There was no second inspection. The exact words were that the race judges were going to ensure that we had a truly even playing field and that the top cars were be subject to reinspection (this is called out in the rules as they have had issues in the past). It was with this statement that the 1st p...

Re: Team 'B-Man" - 1st derby - 1st SET of wins - THANK YOU A

I don't know the exact details but from what I understand : One of the cars had modified wheels One of the cars had modified axles One was unknown. Basically the race coordinator stated that due to 'issues' in the past they would be reinspecting all of the winning cars to ensure exact compliance to ...

Team 'B-Man" - 1st derby - 1st SET of wins - THANK YOU ALL

It's been a while since I posted here as our Pack races were months ago - but I wanted to drop in and say THANK YOU ALL (FS, Sporty, Stan 'The Man', etc.). We just came home from districts and my son WON! he actually placed 4th but the 1st 3 finishers were DQ'd (voluntarily) by the parents. He avera...

Re: help with this pack rule...

While running check-in this year I used the PWD multi alignment tool to verify wheel spacing / axle distance, ground clearance and length. http://www.hobbymasters.com/pinecarpinewoodderbyalignmenttool.aspx We had the same rule and as long as the axles were visible and aligned with reasonable proximi...

Re: RR & COM question

I went with a .75 oz car (with axles and wheels) and placed all the remainin weight 7/8's of an inch forward from the rear axle slot - we HAD to use the stock slots. I drilled 3 holes with a forstner bit (centered and then centered again on each remaining car half) inserted tungsten rods into the ho...

Yes - we are on our way to Districts. No timeline / date yet....

25 packs to compete - since he won the locals - if he gets blanked at Districts fine by me (yeah right....)!

Re: How to keep eBay cars out of your race

We built our car from scratch and never considered any such eBAY nonsense but I have to be honest - we broke our 1st block when I tried inserting the last axle. Luckily I was able to go out and buy a new block from the local BSA / sporting goods store and we built a completely different car and went...

Re: WooHoo - Guess what - 1st out of 80 kids!!

By the way that was the Plan 'B' car - that we made in 2 days (AFTER I cracked the axle on the 1st one)

We had the chance to test run the cars and i ran car A and B side by side. Car 'A' had a TON of wiggle on the flat - B ran true & straight...B it was ;-)

WooHoo - Guess what - 1st out of 80 kids!!

My son went 12/12 - never lost a race. His fastest time was 2.985 - not 'killer' like some of you folks but enough to win everything! http://lh4.ggpht.com/_YJftqvGvpg8/TTtOCF-AD7I/AAAAAAAACPE/hNs0neUNV1k/s720/DSC_5270.JPG ;-) THANKS all for the help, advice and guidance! Since he got smoked @ the ra...

Re: Help requested....

Looks like I may have resolved the rear wheel rubbing - does this make sense? First I removed approx 1/16th of an inch of body at the axle hole by the front dominant wheel, then I removed the rear axle & marked it with a sharpie and inserted it into the Rail Rider tool at 12:00 I bent the rear a...

Re: Help requested....

Which axle - front or rear? Cannot cant the axles - in any obvious manner. All 4 wheels must remain flat on the track. I was afraid to drill the axle hole as we were required to use the as shipped axle slots and I di dnot need / want a DQ due to drilling....thoughts on epoxy keeping everything tight...

Re: Cutting a thin body - best tool?

I have had pretty good luck using a table saw - make SURE you have all the guards in place and push blocks - I use dowels - I can cut a pretty thin body....in fact the first 2 I cut were too thin and snapped on me - Hello carbon fiber ;-)

Help requested....

So this is my first PWD in about 30 years ;-) We have built what I think should be a pretty quick car, my son is very happy with the paint job (his) and he did a great job sanding it and helping me where he could. I put it on the test track and while the right (passenger) front wheel rail rides just...
