I would try testing the paint on a scrap pice of wood first.
To see if the gold paint would show over the black paint.
If it's not to your likeing then try painting gold first then the black.

I have been working on it a little off and on here lately when I get time on the weekends to do so. Hopefuly I can get some photos of it up soon guys.
