Re: First build (in 40 years) - The Batmobile
Looks super cool. Few questions comments. Might flip the block over next time so your dont even have any slots (they get cut off). Also did you add weight yet as pine fenders will throw you over (consider balsa if needed). I would not "lightly sand" wheels at all. Consider buying a tube of...

Re: Oil question
Thank Kurt. We did the same prep but used red rocket wax. They are in tupperware or what I like to call my pine wood chambers of solitude!

Oil question
Hey all, First time running oil in the pack race. We prepped the cars 2 weeks ago with 1-2 drops per axle. Cars are sitting on blocks in my chilly garage. Race is this Thur. Should we add an additional drop per axle prior to the race or is the original prep (when we did our tuning) enough? Noskills

Team Noskills 2016 Final Derby Line-up
Its been a great ride DT family. Found DT 4 years ago and have not lost a race since (well maybe at the mid-America but not in the scouting). Here are the last cars. Looks cool. Hope you chopped out the center of the block or you are going to be over 5 oz.

"I use the same method as NoSkills, but without the turtle wax step."
I like the turtle wax to help the car shine and around the hub I think it helps the graphite cling to that spot as I burnish it in.

Re: Bare wood or paint where wheel touches car?
After paint and clear coat I use "Teflon Tuff" brand nail polish and coat a dime sized area around each axle hole. Like 5-6 coats. Light sand, then 2 coats of Turtle wax. Buff then burnish with graphite. But as others say, to each his own.

Re: Bamboo for inner support?
Looks pretty good. I cut out the wood in the nose too and just don't taper it as much. I add 1-2 balsa cross beams and a balsa cover and it it a but lighter than yours. Also that looks more like 3/8th deep than 1/4. Could lose some weight there too.

Re: Which car?
Joe,
I plan to cover the pine car top and bottom with clear packing tape. The spaces between the cubes are tiny and filled with epoxy. Will post speed results on both cars. Kids are are coming along. Will have some nice photos soon. Made a two tone snake patter than I really like!

Re: lights advice please
I like the blue lightning bolt car. Can you get a piece of clear plastic to cover the cut out like a veneer? I also wonder in led lights that shine straight up would be seen better in daylight (I assume you cant turn off the lights during your derby)
