Re: Pinewood Derby at the Boy Scout level?

What will happen when the Girl Scouts keep racing past the 5th Grade and the Boy Scouts can't race anymore. The Girl Scouts will probably have joined the Boy Scouts by then so they can get the Arrow of Light and become an Eagle Scout. I suppose the Boy Scouts could join the Girl Scouts and keep raci...

Lego decorated PWD cars

I'm probably behind the times but this is a new one for me. Our pack is going to race regulation BSA cars for children too young to be in a Pinewood Derby. We have an old 2 lane wood track we're going to set up in an aisle during regulation racing and turn them loose. No record keeping. Companies ac...

Re: Spray Booth

With all Respect, the lady is not dressed properly for Spray Painting. From someone who painted Class 8 trucks for 13 years, spray painting is very dangerous. Most people think the overspray from painting is dangerous, and it is, but it is the fumes that kill you. Those cheap cotton masks sold every...

Re: Vintage track repair

A piece of History. That's quite a curve. It appears the damage is where the sections meet. Cut the end of the sections off, bring them together and you will be able to save all the original wood. I'd like to see some cars go down that track.

Re: Rear Wheel Camber

I think the 2 1/2 degree angle has probably been learned from experience. I agree with your thinking from what just happened to me. I say "I" because this is a car I'm building for our Sponsor race. All my wheels were set with 1 1/2 degree cant and the right rear wheel showed toe-out. I don't know i...

Re: Need help with salvaging car with broken wood by axle slot

I urge you to read your rules. If you are required to have "4 on the ground" it will present a problem. Might we see a picture of the entire car?
Would you please humor me. Tell me what point your car will balance.
Thank you.

Re: Need help with salvaging car with broken wood by axle slot

Do you have the broken piece? Are you required to have all four wheels on the ground? Are you required to use the stock slots? The car appears to be fairly thick up front and then I see added weight toward the front. Is that weight lead, tungsten, other? Where does the car balance with all 4 wheels ...

Re: Wheels

I just talked to John Kidd. Nice guy. He was given a set of #8 wheels by a friend. Yes, they are legal in the Commodore Perry District. His Girl Scout daughter will be racing on February 11, 2018 at Jerusalem School, Curtice, Ohio. There are 70 Girl Scouts signed up so far. I'll be there all day. I'...

Re: Weight placement, cog question

That's a really good question. There's a lot of variables. There will always be some weight on the dfw but How Much would depend on the design of the car. Our basically stock wedge car will handle the Best track with a 3/4" CG. I always end up increasing the toe-in after tuning the car on the Best t...

Re: first pinewood derby experience

I suspect all rules will allow you to polish the wheel bores. The common product is Novus 2 and a fluffy pipe cleaner, or a Walgreens paper cotton swab shaft, or other things sold by the vendors. Polishing the bores will benefit your team. Remember, the nail does not turn. I'm well aware many folks ...

Welcome to Derbytalk.
Beautiful car. I know science was used to build it. I do have one question. What did you use to polish the bores?
