Re: Tungsten and Duct tape

Whoda, my team cannot build a car as fast as VK builds cars so we don't need the extra adhesion. We've not had colored duct tape blow off yet and the scouts always have a favorite color.
I agree, that silver stuff really sticks.

Tungsten and Duct tape

Each year I always have the Good Fortune of finding 1 scout, Cub Scout or Girl Scout, that is obsessed with speed. Yes, Tungsten is expensive. I'd like to share with you how we build the car. The car is always 1/4" thick. The pockets are cut all the way through and the bottom openings plated with a ...

Re: Canopy Weights from a Spoon

I'm looking forward to seeing the car finished and hearing how it does in a race. Since I don't believe in Luck, I wish you and your team the very Best.

Re: Canopy Weights from a Spoon

We must use a stock wheelbase per our rules. I am impressed with the COM on the red car. I never thought you could get that COM with a dome. NICE JOB !

Re: Canopy Weights from a Spoon

I've been studying all your cars and they would suggest you are very interested in speed. Yep, I am too. Your red car appears to have a stock wheelbase (4 3/8") probably due to the fenders or perhaps rules. The lead weight appears to be not very large but I have no idea what it actually weighs. The ...

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR

No Whoda, I've never seen them but I'm going to buy them and show the scouts at the Saturday workshop. That is a most clever thing. The Girl Scout rules state any Glitter must be buried under Clearcoat and therein lies the problem. They usually fail to Clearcoat the Glitter. This definitely would so...

HAPPY NEW YEAR

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and Best Wishes for a FUN filled Pinewood Derby Season. We have our 1st, and biggest, workshop coming up on this Saturday. The Girl Scouts have more then doubled our usual number. I've had to change my presentation at the beginning of the workshop. I now need to go into detail ...

Re: Minimum diameter of axle

VK, that might be true. However, I doubt that any Scout Race, including the Mid America, allows changing the bore size to something smaller. As always, I could be wrong.

Re: Racing vehicles

Lego cars. There is a piece sold that will fasten on a BSA block. I simply cut the block down to about 1/2" and drilled holes for the axles. It's good to have an adult watching the kids because they push hard when building their design. An adult can make sure the block is sitting on another block to...

Re: Minimum diameter of axle

The BSA axle is fairly consistent at .087 with it a bit larger if measured across the casting marks on the shaft. The only thing I can think of is if the Myth is believed that smaller axles go faster. The vendors all make larger axles for a reason. None of them make smaller axles. Why the rule? It h...

Minimum diameter of axle

The Mid America (.084) and others have a rule on the limit the size of an axle can be, If all other rules are followed, why is there a limit on the size the axle can be less then stock size. Since Doc. Jobe says Smaller axles do not go faster I fail to see a reason for the rule. Also, it seems like ...

Easy Pinewood Derby car Wins using science

I suspect most of you are familiar with Mark Rober and his video of "Easy Pinewood Derby car Wins using science. I saw on TV yesterday that Mark builds packages that looks like Christmas gifts and sets them on his front porch. When someone attempts to steal them they explode and either spray "Glitte...
