Re: BSA axle ridges

Thanks for the rules. Those are the most lenient rules I have ever read. They seem to follow the Mid America rules.
Would you send us a picture of the winning car? I'm curious to learn if someone takes advantage of all these rules.
I wish you the Best.

Re: BSA axle ridges

When you say "aftermarket axles" does this mean you can use .092 stainless steel axles, grooved axles, etc ? Are you racing under rules provided by the Girl Scouts or have you been given rules from a Cub Scout Pack? I'm heavily involved with the Program Director for the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio a...

Re: Need replacement switch for RaceMaster timer

MicroWizard Timers has an RS Remote Start Switch and 50' of cable for $15.00. My switch closely resembles the one shown by Vitamin K. They state if you are ordering this switch for a previously purchased timer give them a call and tell them exactly what you have. You will need to have MicroWizard bu...

Re: Testing your car on a guided track, when racing on a lane track

CONGRATULATIONS to your team. You all did well.
What was the fastest time of the day? Did you happen to get a picture of the fastest car and did it appear to ride the side? Do most of the cars ride the side of their track or do they bounce back and forth? Do you have a picture of the track?

Re: Practice Track Plans

Each person that builds a track has a specific goal. Randy has found a track that is easy to build and might well be the least expensive a track can be built. The guide strip is 1/4" X 1 1/2" Pine lattice strip which is a stock size. That makes it easy. For many of us on Derbytalk we NEED a "Best" t...

Re: Alignment Tool Comparisons

It's not necessary to use the Pro-Axle Bender to accomplish the goal. I simply like that particular tool. I demonstrate it at all our workshops along with all the Derbyworx tools to educate scouts on what's available for them. The nail can be bent using very basic tools without using special tools s...

Re: Alignment Tool Comparisons

The Pro-Axle bender - $79.95. This single tool will enable a builder to set the rear wheels anyway desired and can be adjusted to another angle at any time. Example - I set the rear wheels with 1 1/2 degrees of Negative camber, No toe, and test it on a 35' Best track. I pull the back wheels, bend th...

Re: BSA axle ridges

This is a good Physics lesson. Setting up the nail/wheel bore as suggested does not reduce friction, it simply moves the friction to a smaller area. A downside, It might wear out the graphite sooner. The same is true by cutting a groove in the axle. It does not reduce friction. A possible benefit of...

Re: Testing your car on a guided track, when racing on a lane track

MJ, to answer your 1st question. The Laws of Physics were followed more closely by the faster car whether it was intentional or by accident. I have a 3 wheel rail rider, left front wheel raised, back wheels set at 1 1/2 degrees Negative camber. Both back wheels migrate to axle heads while rolling th...

Re: Looking for Old Derby Magic Single Lane Track

You might want to put this in Derbytalk's Trading Post. That is probably frequently visited. I'm just curious. How long is the track and do you have a timer for it? If the track is around 30 feet long you'll be in good shape. If a car is fast at the 30 foot length it probably will be fast at the 36 ...

Re: Testing your car on a guided track, when racing on a lane track

MJ, I think we're dealing with too many things at once. Going back to your Topic. Testing a car on a Center guided track is not what you want to do on a lane track. There would be no reason to narrow the car body 1/16" behind the Dfw if you are running on a lane track. Your 2 cars are different in e...
