Re: Burnish the "outside" of wheels with graphite too?
no graphite on the flat surface that would touch the track if the wheels were level. Only areas that would rub the axle or car body and the very inside edge of the tread.

Re: Geetting COM Under 1/2" ???
No comments on the merit of a 0.5 COM? If an aluminum track is that not so crazy? Ideal COM is 5/8"-3/4" for someone that know what they are doing. And for someone that does not know what they are doing it is more 7/8"-1" I have a car that is 3/8" and it is fast but it woul...

Re: District track Tune? what to do?
The rear wheels have say 2.5 oz on the left. 1.8 oz on the right and the front has say .8 ounces. This is just an example and made up. But the key is to note that you do not want the rears to touch the rail as they have more weight on them than the front.... Most of my cars are 2.75" drift. Not...

Re: District track Tune? what to do?
Uh yeah. I'm getting sleepless. So when tuning drift and checking rears etc on our test board,( that we have set at 1half inch drop/ slope per ft. (6ft long board),,))should graphite be added for proper accuracy? I've been aligning and setting drift while totally dry of lubricant. How long is your ...

Re: Our Track from Scout plans is warping
I like #1 and will evaluate #2 as we are storing the track finished surfaces together (I believe). For the struts do they go on both sides of the joint? How do they attach to the track and do you leave them in place when you store the track? We have plenty of storage room.... In our case we had 1&q...

Re: District track Tune? what to do?
Yeah, I wish we could have access to this track, but its restricted to race day only. They lock it up all year until districts. We can practice tune on the packs track but its plastic side rails.you think 2 1/2 inch drift in 4ft might be the magic setting? My Fever is increasing. Almost there. :pra...

Re: District track Tune? what to do?
Our COM is right at 11/16. I think that's the most aggressive this build will go using canopy lengthwise and body design. 4 of the 3/16 cubes at far back of car. Its a spoon type hour glass shape ..5/16 thick. I've never seen an extreme bent front axle car on the podium at our district races..we've...

Re: District track Tune? what to do?
Thanks for your answer Stan. As far as our bent front steering axle, we tried the 2.5 degree bend. 2.5 Probably too much for this long track. The 2.5 dfw on the test board seemed to bind with its extreme angle coupled with rubbing car body and the yard stick rail. We've opted to drill the positive ...

Re: Our Track from Scout plans is warping
Ouch! This is nasty... and frustrating! Wood warps when moisture content changes and allows wood to change its internal stresses OR when storage allows prolonged deformation. Two approaches: 1. For operation ... install struts crosswise under the track and extending 8 to 12 inches beyond track edge...

Our Track from Scout plans is warping
We have a track from the scout plans. It is made with a wood with prefinished surface. The wood is a chip board. It is warping. Our mounting system of the sections is fairly basic. 5 screws through the center lanes. Looking for idea to join the track together that may help with warping in the proces...

Re: Crazy to go to under 0.5 inches COM?
5/8-3/4" is the sweet spot for most cars... Perhaps more if the car is aligned poorly.

Re: Which Mothers?
Brasso. I don't use it much anymore. 1. I learned to make sure I cleaned axles after using. Brasso left over residue on axles. Graphite did not seem to like it. I often found for me. It did not polish as well or much at all. With the harder steel axles. For sure clean in denatured alcohol after usi...
