AWANA Grand Prix 2022
The AWANA kits have arrived. Sign ups have started. Inspiration has struck. Sketches have begun. And I think I have my design ready to go to reality. The Inspiration https://i.imgur.com/I7qscwd.jpg The Idea https://i.imgur.com/ZRi139r.jpg I did tinker with a WW2 shark mouth idea but I’m scrapping it...

The Badder Ladder to make them Madder
OK, big rig dream complete. Now to really show these folks what speed is. I want to build a 3/8" Ladder car. https://i.imgur.com/nMTekks.jpg Something similar to the above, but I want to do all the work. I want to again journal my journey from start to finish. I have access to tools, but I real...

Re: Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller
mclewis, I'm curious and have a few questions. Do you have a picture of the track? Do you race on an aluminum track called a "Best" track? Here is the distance between the start pin and the timer if the holes were punched by Best track. 35' track- 29'10" 42' track-36'10" What's ...

Re: Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller
Any pics of how you pulled off the designs in the paint? My wife did the paint job. I'll get her to explain it to me so I can relay it. I do know it is a chameleon paint job which requires a black base coat. And she used stencils on a separate layer in a different direction so that it would render ...

Re: Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller
If you coat the outside with thin CA glue, block sand, repeat as needed to get surface you want you would be able to cut more out of the interior if you want a faster rig. On the rear fenders you could thin CA the inner wheel well and shape them a lite more if you'd like. Do you have a link for CA G...

Alrighty, ladies and gents. Hope you are well in quarantine. This has given me pause and plenty of extra time to spend on the details. Thoughts appreciated. https://i.imgur.com/En3Yfie.jpg https://i.imgur.com/CN2NcSf.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3qSHqed.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lVsALFZ.jpg https://i.imgur...

Re: Night-before build day
I’m in the same boat as you. I don’t have an answer for how it will affect your numbers. I can tell you how we do it. Since we don’t have many tools and about 60 cars purchased this year we are doing 4 pit nights, completely optional. They are 3 hours each across a month of Saturday’s. We are provid...

Re: Microwizard Fasttrack Timer Case Build
I would put the timer in some very, very safe place all by itself. I have 2 identical Micro Wizard timers with an attachment for one that shows Elapsed times. They are never both in the same place or the same house. I know. My wife says I worry too much. My doctor is helping me with that. Th...

Microwizard Fasttrack Timer Case Build
Good Morning All. Sorry for my absence but family, ministry, and work first. Not a lot of time to play. However if you wake up early enough you can focus! May I present my Seahorse 720 buildout for holding my timer, car gage, scales, calibration weights, starting gate, and wires. It basically the k...

Re: level the playing field
For me leveling the playing field is making all my tools/jigs available to all the kids participating. I don’t keep speed secrets. I openly prep/build my stuff at the workshops. I talk to the kids about what I am doing and what I used to do it. Last year was our first year but we provided paint, san...
