Re: Arrow of Light Rank
^^^not in our pack. My oldest started the season as a Webelo II, and our pack pushed for a fall (instead of spring) crossover. We were told that since they crossed over before the pack race was held for the year (mid March), that they would not be eligible for the pack race, or the district race (si...

Re: How to secure DFW axle?
With the nail head pliers, I've found that removal of the axle is super easy. Even with the two dots of sg, the surface area that gets glued, is plenty to hold it secure (as you stated, it's just "extra" insurance since the drilled axle holes are very snug), but small enough that it breaks...

Re: Maximum speed a car can reach.
I'm not even in the same ball bark as many here, but I'd gladly participate with what I hope is the fastest car that we've built to date this year (or we will build another according to your rules). Email incoming....

Re: Pinewood Derby Medals
Thanks. He said he feels that they (BSA) are getting away from the 1st, 2nd 3rd type medal ranking, so that everyone is a winner. Well that sucks to hear. I've never been a fan of the "everyone is a winner" mentality (that's what participation ribbons are for!). It puts unrealistic real w...

Re: How to secure DFW axle?
We use a thick CA glue from Hobbytown that sets in 10 seconds. It's thicker than standard CA glue, so doesn't 'run' along the axle head once it's dropped down into our 'glue holes'. Great product for $3.99/bottle. And no issues with fumes/condensate. Scrollsawer Ours is thick/gel as well, and we on...

Re: How to secure DFW axle?
We use super glue on all 4 axles, once set. We drill 2 holes per axle, on the bottom of the car, then add a few drops of super glue per hole. Never had one come loose or move around.

Re: Rail Riding drifting wrong direction
Don't be so hard on yourself. After finding this fantastic place just recently, I've learned that all 8 cars that we've built over the last 4 years, were all wrong, in may ways, lol. This place is really is packed with tons of excellent information. We can hardly wait until our races this year, to s...

Re: Rail Riding drifting wrong direction
Did you see how it "rolled" down the table with the rear wheels on only? If it went straight with rear wheels only, then the front axle is where the adjustment is needed. If you did't test the rears only, then you might have the two rear wheels fighting each other, and one them actually st...

Re: Odd Rules
is the velcro strip adhesive backed? If so, I could possibly see the hair dryer there to help heat up the adhesive for better stickability?Nelvis wrote:I'm just trying to wrap my head around what you would use the blow dryer for.

Re: Four on the floor rail rider thoughts
We have an "all 4 wheels touching, all across the tread" and "no bent axles" rule as well. But since our pack track has no center rail, we are just choosing to gamble it and tune for straight as possible. Our District is a month after the pack race, and it has a center rail, so w...

Re: First attempt....
Well, what I did, was buy the body jig (two tools & the bar to connect them). I don't have any plans to use it as a body tool, but they didn't have any single tools in stock, and I thought "Well, we'll get two this way, so we'll have a new one when this one gets worn". I had no idea th...

Re: First attempt....
Old tool on left, new on right.
New on left, old on right. A big enough difference, that I had to adjust the front layout of the block to compensate.

Re: First attempt....
Thanks fellas. Will for sure look into the front wheels further back, for all reasons mentioned. The block does have a weird/different grain pattern to it, but it is straight from a BSA kit. As for the cutting of the weight pockets, I was pretty crude/basic, as I have no scroll saw. I laid them out ...
