Re: Inner wheel caps
I have thought of covering the wheels but this would complicate the alignment process. I was thinking that capping the inner wheels might get some of the benefit with out all the difficulty. Might have a hard time completely covering the wheel and maintaining maximum width requirements. If you coul...

Re: Keeping nail/axle in place techniques. Glue?
I like the idea of hot glue because we can remove it and the wheels if we want. -Stev- Yes, hot glue does have that advantage. The question would be how to apply it. A little bit at the tip of the nail might be enough to hold things in without tilting the axel. Would need to get the nail in quickly...

Re: Keeping nail/axle in place techniques. Glue?
So you drill a hole up from the bottom to wear the axle is exposed and then fill with hot glue? -Stev- I had assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you were using slots. If you are using slots you can set your axel, then just shoot a bit of glue to hold it in. Haven't tried hot glue on extended wheelba...

Re: Inner wheel caps
That might be interpreted as using a hub, which might be illegal according to your rules.Paul Curtis wrote:Has anyone tried capping the inner wheels for reduced aerodynamic drag? I envision a stiff piece of thin plastic that goes from the inner hub out to the inside of the tread.

Re: Keeping nail/axle in place techniques. Glue?
When the car is done and everything is perfect I am always concerned about how to keep the axle in place. Something I am always paranoid about. Last couple of years we have just gone ahead and glued the axle in place. We put some puddy epoxy in the hold and push in the axle. We are thinking about u...

Re: Are these axles/wheels a lost cause?
I purchased a set of speed axles and matched speed wheels from a reputable company online (I won't say who cuz I don't want them to think I'm bashing them - cuz I'm not). I've ordered from this company in the past and have been happy with everything they have sent. Here is my problem - After prepar...

Re: Lathed Wheels totally smooth or slight polish, wooden tr
Are you thinking polishing the wheel with pledge or just wet sanding with 600 or so grit sand paper? I would think wet sanding would be great, polish might tend to make the wheel to slick.

Re: Hardening Axles - Pros, Cons?
When heating with a tourch, do you heat unitil it glows (what color?) and then quinch it in water? or oil? We hold an axle in a pair of vise grips and place it in the flame of a propane torch until it just turns red hot. Then immediately drop the axle in a cup of tap water. If you hold it in the fl...
