Re: pre cut cars

If the cars did not have lightened wheels, low COM and good alignment are next to consider..

hope I'm not repeating info above.

Re: Graphite pads via water?

I would not call a correct enforcement of the rules a witch hunt. I would call it "what is necessary" to enforce bad rules. A witch hunt means looking for something that isn't there. We found hard evidence, in my opinion, last spring that folks (some wearing a Cub Scout lead shirt I'll add...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

(just seems that pure graphite needs some help to clump, and nothing we've used in dry form does the magic trick of clumping... ) I'm not saying it isn't possible. I would love to be shown wrong, the day I stop learning, that is the day you should put me in a box 6' under ! I try to remain open to a...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

FS... Max V was confirmed to have not changed. (in last 2 years) It is pure, large flake as I understand it (graphite). We used a combination of pure fine flake (Pinewood Extreme) and MaxV to achieve a better end result. Those very wheels are the ones I pulled off 2 nights ago looking for clumps... ...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

Give it a try ... yes, in my garage, no problem... but I need to hear from a lot of folks that this is the typical normal result ;) Possible clumping agents in available graphite: Max V confirmed the formula we have shop experience with (Clean and Sheen) isn't changed in 2 years, that means it is st...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

Looked over BGB... I'm still convinced what I saw last spring was the oil + graphite, our judge said it was the same thing Saturday and he would know the difference. We've never produced clumps dry, period... we see clean and sheen. We did a lot of wheels, did them a lot of different ways... got the...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

Let point out exactly how our judge interprets the rules, and he was very clear in this verbally anytime I heard someone discuss it with him (but I was not present at the tear down): Background, none of us locally that just puff graphite and break it in ever created the dry clumps, only smooth sheen...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

We have no photos of what the judge saw, but what he tells me he saw matches exactly what we both saw last spring and what is protrayed in the Doc Jobe book as (best I understand) is achievable only with liquids... verbally, here goes: You will see with a 10X loupe small clumps of graphite, like &qu...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

Let me just say that all evidence obtained thus far about what dry packed graphite should look like does not match what our judge saw. Our judge saw a product that all indications are at this point can only be produced by using liquid of some form and that violates our rules. I will ask the co-worke...

Probably an old topic, but...

... why does the DT logo dragster have 11 cylinders? Keith Black hemis used in NHRA top fuel run 8, right? Vipers use 10 cyl engines that fire 2 cyl at a time and sound like UPS trucks (5 cyl engines) as a result of the paired firings... ... would not a "Top Fuel" dragster run 8? Is the gr...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

Sebastian: 1) I don't own nor have easy acces to the Big Green Book :( 2) the guys at work who are still racing said the BGB indicates liquid is used in forming "clumps"... could we be referencing different revisions of the book? 3) the person locally who was DQ'd said they used only Max V...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

Very possible Stan... has anyone taken precise measurements of hub ID along the length of the bore? If it is smaller at the ends (as I think I see in the pics) than in the middle, the distortion must be after the draft pin that forms the bore is removed... in the pic, my eye is saying the wheel show...

Re: Graphite pads via water?

Thanks for the clarification Stan. Agree Sebastian that terminology might be good to clarify the phrase "graphite pads". I am excatly as Stan says referring to the clumped graphite inside the wheel bores that can result with certain processes as Doc Jobe covers in his big green book. Thank...

I'm out of date on Derby tech, I know of the new wheels, but what is the mushroom you refer to?

Re: Graphite pads via water?

Forgive me if I have lost the bubble and don't respond to all inquiries since last post in this thread: A friend saw "graphite pads" Saturday at the District race. I helped with check in inspection but left early. There was a "breakaway group" in the finish order, and similar to ...
