Re: Anyone selling vintage pinewood derby kits?? HELP PLEASE
I found one in the Scout Flea Market at our Coucilwide Summer Extravaganza a few years ago. I paid $3 for it. I doubt that a straight deal like that will show up on eBay but you might check their anyway.

Re: Pomperaug District Race 4-29-06
The "Dragster II" as Stephen named it. District Champion. http://www.ctpumpkin.com/images/pw2.jpg We raced on a Wood Piantedosi 6 lane with 4 sections installed. I'd estimate the pin to timer distance at 27-28 feet. They had a Micro-Wizard timer & Derby Master software. The race method...

Re: Pomperaug District Race 4-29-06
WOW!!! After a LOT of great racing the resultrs are in. 1st Place: 13.184 Stephen 2nd Place: 13.476 3rd Place: 13.506 etc Lots of controversy which I'll elaborate on after the celebration dinner unless Dave beats me to it. Thanks again to the Derby Talkers for all of the great ideas. You guys are th...

Re: Pomperaug District Race 4-29-06
Thanks Jay, I'll show him this thread again before bed. You influenced the "Dragster II" build more than I did so I know he'll appreciate your kind wishes. I never expected to be pleased to find a car pulling toward the rail but as fate would have it, D2 did just that. So absolutely...

Pomperaug District Race 4-29-06
Best Wishes to everyone tomorrow! It will be nice to sit back & enjoy watching our Boys (and my own son) race instead of conducting the event this year. Hosting is fun but just watching, cheering & taking pictures is too. Thanks in Advance to Pack 167 for hosting the event. Thanks too for al...

Re: baked derby blocks ????
Mike Doyle is right about grain pattern. Posting pictures would be tough since the design is going to dictate where the stresses will be located. A print photograph from the pack race revealed what happened to Stephen's car. He was running an outside lane. It was the second from last run & resul...

Re: District race today!!!!
Congratulation are in order again then! Good for the Boy!
I'm surprised it took so long to find out but as you said, at least the organizers came clean.
I doubt anyone would ever have the nerve to recall a trophy once it was awarded.

Re: "Composites Derby"
This is a GREAT Idea! Modern composites are a more relevant media for kids to work with in today's day & age. I like tradition as much as the next guy & I LOVE the smell of Pine. But what value does working with Pine teach the Boys if this is all they are permitted to work with? A friend ga...

Re: baked derby blocks ????
Update on Stephen's baked 6.4 gram block. The radical design combined with the VERY dry block resulted in fatal cracking along a grain line. Design played a large role. But the very light wood was indicative of fast growth (fewer rings) wood. Baking may have further weakened the wood which may have ...

Re: Who has to use the original BSA slots??
Do the rules specify "original wheelbase" or just "original slots must be used". Some builders cut the block into sections & reglue the slotted section where they want the wheels to be.

Re: ANYONE ELSE INTO ROYAL AMBASSADOR DERBY CARS???
Does Royal Ambassador make their own cars? I have only ever seen the official BSA Grand Prix & Pinecar kits. How does RA differ from these?

Re: Heartbreaker!
I am sorry to hear of this unfortunate situation. We've been there too. It hurts to see any Boy go from first to last but it's harder still when it's your own son. Hopefully you both take something positive from the experience & learn to build to prevent disaster without sacrificing speed. This ...

Re: 2 Cents on RH at Districts
Agreed the hot glue will remain too plastic to drill. Wood filler or Bondo would make a more "drillable" build.

Re: Looking Jigs for multi-piece cars
Here is another jig designed for Slotcar construction. This one was built by a guy named Dave England. http://jbriggsk9.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/jig.jpg Notice it employs the use of a flat plate which could be sized either for stock or extended wheelbase situations. Is Derby...

Re: Looking Jigs for multi-piece cars
I don't think a test track is necessary to merit the use of an alignment jig. In fact, a good jig might render a test track redundant if the builders results can become predictable enough. Easy for me to say since we DO have a track :D This is sort of what I have in mind: http://www.getyourwebsitehe...
