Wasn't that second vehicle from a made-for-tv movie Jan Michael Vincent post-apocalyptic sci fi thingy? SOOO cool when I first saw it, almost certainly intolerable today. The second one would be pretty straightforward, unless you actually wanted the wheel triplets to spin like in the movie. Is this ...

Re: Why the death wiggle on some runs and not on others?

did the car run only once in each lane? I've seen lane bias - until we gave our track a serious cleaning and rework about three years ago our "lane 1" tended to be slower and occasionally tossed cars off the track. Since then, no problems, NO TOSSED CARS, and it is now statistically faster...

Re: Speeder Car Help

This is why we tossed the "four on the floor" rule out for our local derby - in recognition that it can actually be quite difficult to get all four actually on the floor at the same time. Is this your first derby with this pack? They may or may not actually enforce this strictly. If you ha...

Re: Quick Start Fronts (QSF) on pinewood derby cars prohibi

Actually, the rules in the box really are that bad and leave too many loopholes/items open to interpretation. I have no interest in running a derby with the box rules. Among other things they allow for cars which would be disqualified at our District races.

Re: Derby Trivia for Race MC?

I use two machines at every derby - one runs GPRM and RaceReplay, the other runs a looping powerpoint slideshow which includes photos of cars, photos from the prior year's derby, comics scraped off the web, logos of our corporate event sponsors, as well as derby facts. I've stripped out everything b...

Re: Request for Race Data

Just sent you five years of data in CSV format, heat by heat with lane information, times, finish order, etc. We strip personally identifiable information from race results and publish to our Pack website each year, so the data is already set to go. When I first started doing this three years ago, i...

Re: Printer needed on race day?

Three years ago we used a borrowed inkjet printer. It helped out tremendously, however while fast, we found we were waiting for it to print the requested 4x copies of the 5 page race matrix (one for me, one for the announcer, one for the pit crew, and two to post for the cubs to see). Last year and ...

Re: How thin of a car is ok

My son's current year car is a little over 1/4" tall, but we beveled the sides in on the bottom edges of the car between the front and rear wheel which makes the car look about 1/8" tall when viewed from above. Since most derby cars are viewed from above, it makes it look like a ridiculous...

Re: When is a new race file needed?

We switched from RaceView to GPRM three years ago, and could not be happier with the switch. At that point RaceView had already been discontinued for 3+ years (if I recall correctly!), so kudos for getting it to continue to work a few more years. RV was too unreliable and we had a nurse an old lapto...

Re: 2012 Pack winner

Design awards are only consolation awards if all boys who don't get a speed award get a design award. We do NOT do this - although I've been told that is what was done in our pack 5+ years ago. We give out participation certificates to all boys, out of the 72 racers, 41 took home medals and/or troph...
