Re: Freedom Track Mods

Randy, Sorry for not describing it well enough and I get your not wanting to drill in the track, but it is in the center and chance of messing is up is not that great if you exercise some caution. Ok let me try again. Remove the track plate that keeps the tracks together - take it out of the discuss...

Re: Freedom Track Mods

Randy, Idea! Just drill 4 new holes in the track for the front hinged mount and add a piece of 1/8" aluminum flat with holes in it to go under the hinges as a track plate. Then you wouldn't need to old/existing track plate in that position. I also believe this would keep the slope the same - pe...

Re: Pinewood Derby Car Mini-Lathe

I call the really good stock wheels "Unicorns"...... :o I'm sure it's a typical bell curve. From my previous wheel quality post .0005" to .012" and good/bad mold numbers change with the seasons. I could care less about mold numbers - althought I was initally caught up in the tube...

Re: Pinewood Derby Car Mini-Lathe

Speedster, Bore condition could certainly play a role in the quality of the wheel. Measuring and understanding the bore and it's condition and or form could prove quite difficult with it's small size. You can visually see defects in some of them, like depressions. Are those helpful or hurtful - I ha...

Speedster,

I am glad to hear you like the gage. I'd also like to give you :bigups: for your creativity on using the sandpaper and file in conjunction with the wheel shaver.

Re: Window 8 and Prolific Chipset USB to 9 pin Serial Adapte

Thanks Randy.

That's why I went thru the trouble of posting the morsels of good stuff that i dug through to make it work.

I'm sure the easy answer for some is just to purchase a new cord compatible with Window 8.

I have one coming as my backup plan, but it will not be needed for now.

Re: Window 8 and Prolific Chipset USB to 9 pin Serial Adapte

All resolved for the time being. I will change the title from "Window 8 and GPRM V11?" to " Window 8 and Prolific Chipset USB to 9 pin Serial Adapter?" I hope this may help some others. Here is what I found; Windows 8 - automatically goes out and grabs the latest driver for anyth...

RE: Window 8 and Prolific Chipset USB to 9 pin Serial Adapte

Hold off on any help.

My gut tells me it's the USB adapter, that it may not be compatible with Windows 8 or the incorrect driver is installed.

Will check drivers tonight and ordered a newer cable as a possible backup solution to the problem.

Window 8 and Prolific Chipset USB to 9 pin Serial Adapter?

Trying to help the guy get setup to take over our packs pinewood as I transistion out. The timer is not dumping times into GPRM. I suspect the problem lies with the USB to Serial Adapter. The USB to Serial info say's it's on COM4 and GPRM is reading COM3 and there is not an option to change it to 4 ...

Re: Pinewood Derby Car Mini-Lathe

I find it a little funny internally, given what I was envisioning a couple of weeks ago. I will share it here as I don't see the time available to get on it right away and maybe someone wants to pickup with it and see what they can make happen. Now to my comments; The guy has a basically good idea, b...

Re: Pinewood Derby Car Mini-Lathe

Speedster,

The 4091's would be lighter than stocks, so it would seem to reason that they would indeed be faster.

Is the root of your question around the quality of the wheel versus speed or to the weight of the wheel versus speed?

Re: Which of the rules "in the box" prevents use of lathe?

I agree with Stan, no special tools required for the visual inspection using the tread bumps. I would also recommend that you allow removal of the double step on the outside and coning the inner hub. This eliminates any additional problems of inspection. Then you can consider if tapping the bore sho...
