Re: Rail Riding - "How To Guide"

By raising the axles as high as possible you gain the ability to get more weight below the plane of the axles. This give some increase in stability and speed. I haven't tested it yet but many on other forums use this method exclusively. This season I may build a test car around this premise.

Re: Retired!!

Karma--- I'm not "retiring" per sec, rather I'm not racing in our club race. I'll test my car afterward to make sure I'm fast enough and then I'll go straight to the regional race. We also run a couple races for scouts and other churches. I will likely run my car in those just for fun. I'm...

Re: Retired!!

Asatxj, Did you get a deer this season? Just noticed that you're a bowhunter. Big admirer of the patience you must command. And of the time you get to spend in the woods. This was the hardest season EVER for my team! We got one deer among 3 of us. If you saw a deer in one place one time that was it...

Re: Retired!!

I'm not sure I'm an "extremist" in the classic definition, however my wife thinks I'm nuts for spending so much time learning how to make fast cars. On the other hand, I am spending time with my kids and investing in the lives of many others. As some one with a passion for ministering to c...

Re: Retired!!

Agree with Doc, although to be clearer, asatxj seems to be talking about a children's ministry being conducted by a church (not a Cub Scout Pinewood Derby per se ), so the Cub Scout motto doesn't necessarily motivate in this case. I suspect scriptural principles may be the motive (e.g., Christian e...

Re: Retired!!

asatxj, Please forgive me for appearing dense, what exactly was the complaint? Same folks always winning? Exactly that. I and a couple of other guys have become rather fast and "they" think it's all about us winning and so it's no fun for the rest of them. :? remember, between the two fas...

Re: Retired!!

sebastian- I am in charge of the ministry, for some reason they chose not to talk to me and mentioned it to the Pastor who oversees our childrens ministries. He knows me very well and disagreed with them but did tell me anyway so I took retirement so I wouldn't be an impairment to their fun. My &quo...

Re: Retired!!

Basically a couple of us put in the time and effort to get fast. Despite helping 1/3 of the racers the "paint the block and stick the wheels on" crowd got grumpy and complain (never to us though) because they weren't competitive even though they were all finishing (weren't before) and qual...

Retired!!

Well it's finally happened. The people who were unwilling to come to workshops, ask questions, or search places like this have made enough noise in our Club that all of we fast people are retiring. It's a bummer that they didn't want to try to get fast. Rather they convinced us to retire. We usually...

Re: Rail Riding - "How To Guide"

Our rules state "Axles may not be angled in the car body slots/holes Based on that, you could bend the axle slightly. That's part of the alignment process for many cars. it will allow the wheel to migrate out and still run almost flat. If you check it with a light and set it on a flat surface w...

Re: using gprm for test and tune

No can do, I only have v. 7. We'll see about the update when the regional director decides to go to it. As is, the program did what we needed yesterday. Good fun.

using gprm for test and tune

We have a test and tune coming up and I would like builders to be able to see their times. Can gprm be set up so it will just display information when a race is run? I don't really want to sit there and create heats for two hours, I might want to work on my car(s) all 5 of them.

Re: Rail Riding - "How To Guide"

 A stock Awana wheel has about 1.5 degrees of positive camber built into it. The inside diameter of the tread is larger than the outside. In absence of a Lathe or the funds to buy MaxV's wheels ($30+) attempting to get positive camber in the front one must put approximately 3 degrees of be...
