Re: New BSA Wheel and Axle??

OK, conspiracy theorists, maybe these will put the issue to rest. Probably not. I'm still inclined to go with the Canadian mischief theory. Rod Turnbull for President... er... I mean... er... Rod Turnbull for Prime Minister. Bubba p.s. The seams on the new wheels kinda make me nervous, esp. the one...

Re: "Weight is important, but it isn't everything"...???

Quick question... if you added all the weight to the wheels would the beating your took off the starting line be less than the beating you took because of the extra friction? From what I've seen you'd get a grade A whoopin' on a "normal" length track. You'd get off to a REAL slow start, a...

...3. Build a new car. With what we have learned since we built this car, I feel like we can do a better job on building our next car. However, with work, three kids playing baseball and honey-dos, two weeks might be a little tight. What would you do? :? Build a new one. Pretty easy for "stuff...

Re: Green T - New HR66 Pickup

What 'model' did the engine come from and/or what scale is it? Very nice.  The engine on "Green T" came from a 1/24 scale (I think) "Road Rippers" race car, one of those toys with the buttons on top to make the car light up, make engine sounds, roll forward, etc. To...

VEEEEEERY nice truck....great job! Not sure if I'll get them both incorporated before Lima, I'm still working on wrapping up the 3 Big Rigs and the "Red Baron" . Okay...I realize this thread is a bit older...I have been thinking about creating a Tom Daniels inspired Red Baron car a...

Re: Public venue pinewood derby race coordination

Some issues that need to be addressed: 1) Layout - you need a "dry run" through the event with the Store Manager (not his/her underling - you need answers that won't change) to confirm EXACTLY where you are going to be able to set up and that sufficient space is available. I suggest markin...

Service "requirements" for participating in Scout

I heard of a local Troop (that shall remain nameless) that has decided as of late that in order to increase participation in Troop sponsored / affiliated Community Service projects, the Scouts that wish to participate in future outings / camping trips will be required to participate in the specific ...

Re: Excluding Tigers from competing for Pack Champion?

I'm with Stan on this. Me too. BTW I don't recall the last time we had a Tiger take our "Fastest of the Pack" award. The only ones that ever come close are those that have older brothers who did well, and did so recently. From my observation even the teams that eventually become the most ...

Re: Entrants Fee for Council Race Event

FWIW: Our Council Entry fee is $35 per Pack, with 10 total entries allowed per Pack (Winners and Runners-Up for 1st through 5th grades). On average there are probably 9 entries per Pack (some smaller Packs only have 1 boy in a particular grade or even 0 boys in some particular grades). Send the form...

Re: Handling qualifying for Council Races

...If the numbers could get too large for you, then maybe you cap it at a certain level for those with no qualifying race and it becomes first-come, first serve. I know that's not a real appetizing solution but maybe something like that would be OK for the first year just to get an idea of the leve...

...3) I looked at the pictures of the kids with their cars taken at weigh in and I noticed two things. A, they all looked really excited and B, I saw some of the designs I had talked about in my class. So I will see you all at the races. There's the real payoff IMO. I don't know how many grown men ...

Re: BSA vs. Pine Pro

Do the scouts in your pack have to go out and purchase their own car kits? If so then this could be part of the problem. What we do is purchase the cars and sell them to the boys. This is also a big convenience to the parents since the scout store is almost an hour away. FWIW that is the approach w...

Re: BSA vs. Pine Pro

...I feel somewhat responsible for this whole thing. In my speed class I talked about getting weight and accessories at other stores. This is where I think the people got the idea to use the Pine Pro kits. Next year the rules will be laid out very clearly and if anyone shows up with a non-BSA car t...

Re: What grit sandpaper?

For a fairly simple treatment, I would pick up some dry 320 grit paper (we use 3M SandBlaster from Home Depot) and some wet/dry 600 and 1500 grit paper (we use Imperial Wet/Dry found at most AutoZone type stores). Sand the treads with the 320 until the mold mark is removed. Also hold a popsicle stic...
