Re: weight advice---pic

Not that I've used them, or have any idea as to their effectiveness, but are wheel weights considered 'barbell weighting'? I am curious as to the proliferation of this type of weighting, over, say, concentrated (cube or molten lead) weighting.

Re: PWD box

I am flat out too embarrassed to post a pic. of the rats nest that passes for my PWD work area. It's like a tornado hit. I need to do some serious organizing this weekend.

Re: weight advice---pic

If I'm understanding your post correctly, I don't think you need to worry about the added putty underneath the car and behind the axle. So long as the putty clears the track guide, then you should be good to go. So long as the car is drifting the way you want (toward the DFW) during your tuning and ...

Re: Our final car

Very cool car! The blue LEDs worked out great with the Lightning theme, and I like how the fenders incorporate the lightning bolt theme. Is that some type of wrap material? Also, what are the specs.? Is it set up for speed?

Good luck at your Scout's final Derby!

Re: Grooves in wheel bores?

I would lean toward rubbish. Lots of posts here that seem to indicate cars with well administered graphite run quite well 'as-is' for 4-6 runs (which is the duration of most all Pinewood Derbies. And the author wants folks to apply a "hot screw" to the wheel bore?!? :jawdrop: Yes, I'm goin...

Re: Plans for a new car

Do a Hershey bar ladder car as your platform, then craft a super light balsa wood body around it. You can still make a pretty fast car using that approach, trust me. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=7490&hilit=Hot+dog

Re: RACE RESULTS ADDED - Helped my neighbor's son build a faster car

Congratulations!! Looks like one happy boy! Our rules aren't that lenient. If our car jumps track once, we get a rerun, it jumps twice, for any reason, it's a DQ from the race. I'm not sure I like that rule, as in this case, it would have punished anyone running positive camber on their cars. To me...

Re: RACE RESULTS ADDED - Helped my neighbor's son build a faster car

Your car looks like it has Positive Camber on the DFW. Did any other cars have the same problem? I am fairly confident that we were the only car running camber. Yes, the DFW did have positive camber, so by my thinking, the DFW hit a low section of the track rail, near where the joints were likely m...

Re: Would you build a rail-rider for a questionable track?

Really timely post for us tonight! We had a Scouts' car set up to rail ride with the DFW on the left side of the car. In lane 3 tonight, the car jumped it's lane 3 times, likely due to the DFW wheel hitting a misaligned track joint, which I am sure cost the car it's tuning, and consequently several ...

RACE RESULTS ADDED - Helped my neighbor's son build a faster car

Our Neighbor's race was tonight. Was really happy to see him win 1st Place, Bear Rank, and 1st Place Overall. He's got a lot to be proud of, and he put a lot of work into his car build. http://i64.tinypic.com/1zf2ckm.jpg An interesting thing happened during the race. The nice gentleman that the Pack...

Re: lights advice please

I really think tiny arduino technology will continue to offer up cool lighting options over time. I am very much interested in buying this wearable tech kit to see if it can be leveraged into a pinewood car design.

Re: lights advice please

That's pretty amazing that it (the lighting components) only weighs .07 oz. Will the top laminate lightning bolt shown in your bottom pic. be illuminated? I had always thought that adding lights meant you had to remove yourself from the competition, speed-wise, but you're changing my mind on that. :...

Re: lights advice please

I keep my eyes on Arduino technology, and it sure seems as though it's now sized to be able to really do some cool things in a Pinewood Derby car build context. Case in point is this Arduino Keychain (see below link to a video) that somebody built that is pretty much sized to fit into a Pinewood Car...
