Re: Multi-Timer setup to capture performance data
Here is a photo of the circuit card and the sensor board that goes under each of the lanes in BestTrack. http://www.newdirections.ws/images/TR2.JPG For groups that project GPRM, this finish line will do everything the Champ does, for 25% of the price. It is good for anything from 1 to 8 lanes. By us...

Multi-Timer setup to capture performance data
I find this discussion to be interesting, and think there is a lot to learn about performance through multipoint timing. Any mutilane timing circuit could be pressed into this service by simply locating the finish lane sensors at various points along the track. At the moment, I am getting ready to a...

Re: Electric start gate release
Great work. You are quite correct that the sideways motion of stock gate release causes some undesirable wiggle in the track. Two suggestions to overcome the problems you describe which worked for me: 1. Weaken the spring in the elbow latch by gripping with a pliers and carefully exceeding the elast...

Re: How do packs raise funds for timers?
Wow! That was a fast clear out of old equipment. No more old Judges left here, very few pieces in the junk bin. If anyone missed out, check back next summer.

Re: Pack 976 Derby Winners Announced
Right you are. Any kind of elimination system comes with two fatal flaws: An early meeting of the two truly fastest cars make the second-fastest worth nothing. Far worse, it creates unhappy kids. When the kid gets unhappy, his parents lose interest, and when they think nobody is looking, edge out th...

Re: There might be potential here
Hi Sporty. I actually participated in this popular experiment in a lab back when I actually had a job. This particular video is not very well made, but there is nothing faked here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuumdIkSdVE For a low tech, but amazing quick demo of magnetic effect, just drop a small...

Re: How do packs raise funds for timers?
If your track happens to be 3 Lane with 3.5" between centerlines, and you don't need computer interface, I have a bunch of vintage Judges taken in on trade, and you can have one for $6 for the postage. They are taking up too much space here. http://www.newdirections.ws" target="_blank

Re: New Remote controlled Start Gates for the 2011 Season
I just put your suggested link on the page. Besides the MWI solution, I have sometimes put a pulse stretcher circuit in the Light Tree. For the next production run of Light Trees I will probably go up to a 6 second green. That should be enough for the longest tracks.

Re: New Remote controlled Start Gates for the 2011 Season
Good point, Randy. MicroWizard is the only finish line to my knowledge that does not latch the start signal from its microswitch sensor. The MicroWizard timers that are using the Laser Gate do not have this problem, since the start signal is latched. I offer the MWI (MicroWizard Interface) for folks...

Re: Running two timers and not consistent
I supply a reed switch with my timer, and you have me worried. Without naming names, does the flakey timer start with the letter "J"? Reed switches are very reliable because they are hermetically sealed in a glass tube filled with argon or nitrogen, so the contacts do not oxidize. For this...
