Re: So this year's car is finished and Pack results
District was today. Car was disappointing. Ran on what I believe is a 32 foot, 6 lane wood track. VERY nice track. Winning car ran 2.75 on a regular basis. That was the fastest car of the day. A couple others ran 2.76. Ours ran 2.78-2.80. One inexplicable run, it looked like it hit the brakes and sl...

Re: So this year's car is finished and Pack results
Okay, so we worked on the car yesterday. Removed all the wheels. Tossed one axle. Re-prepped the bores. Ran it head to head with last year's car again....and it wasn't as fast. Tweaked and tweaked until we got the new one to just catch the old car at the finish. It was winning by about 1/3-1/2 a car...

Re: So this year's car is finished
Pack race was today. He won the Wolf/Bear division, in spite of the Cubmaster accidentally knocking his car off the starting line and the front wheels getting screwy. We had one wheel barely touching, and we put our worst wheel/axle combo on that one. After the drop, that wheel was the one on the tr...

Re: What will wear out???
Okay, this has me concerned. We tested my son's car on Sunday, probably 30 runs total. Removed the axles, inspected the bores, relubed, and reinstalled.....and put a bit of epoxy in the slots at the tips since they had been in and out a couple of times. The wheel bores had a nice coating of graphite...

So this year's car is finished and District results
We tested it last night against our last year's 2nd place (by. 003) Tiger Cub car. (At district, it won pack) Did a few test runs and then relubed both cars. I have a 2 land wooden 32ft Piantedosi track, with a "who got there first" finish indicator, but no timer. (Sweet Craigslist find fo...

Re: Lock non-DFW tight?
Doesn't make sense to me. If the wheel is free rolling, it surely takes friction to make it spin than it would to let a locked wheel skid.

Re: Canting: bent axles vs. drill press vs. adjustment screw
I think I asked for clarification on the method Sporty describes for canting with coins, and I still never really "got it", but now I think I do. So to be clear: Sporty, you're saying install the axles without the wheels. Put some oil of some sort on the axle, then epoxy them. Then set the...

Re: Graphite pads via water?
Is dry moly film considered a liquid and therefore restricted from the typical district race? As I recall, the rules talk about "only dry lubricants can be used" is part of the rules. When I read that rule I tend to think they are addressing the use of oils. Dry moly film is in liquid for...

Re: A different kind of win.
Great story. My daughter had a similar experience this year at her Powderpuff Derby. She finished 3rd in speed last year. This year, new troop and I volunteered to help anyone who needed it, or at least to help the girls make their cars go faster. No expert, but our results had been pretty good so f...

Re: Hello, Thanks, and Pack Results
.003 separated him from first place. Second it was! Not too shabby.
They didn't have eliminations, they just ran 6 times and took the average .
His car did win every time it ran. He's happy, which is the important thing.

Re: Hello, Thanks, and Pack Results
Well, never got a chance to really research adjusting camber on the rears, so left it as is, re-applied graphite (using that XLR8 stuff) and took it to registration/inspection tonight. Passed, no problem. 5.0oz on the nose, he's impounded and ready to go tomorrow. Told us there are 25 Tigers in the ...

Re: Hello, Thanks, and Pack Results
Thanks for the responses! I'll answer questions first: 1. No, the rules don't say "wheels must be flat". I double-checked last night. Just says all four must touch. 2. I bought them from the Scout shop. Put them in the mandrel and in the press, hit 'em with a piece of sandpaper, then shine...

Re: Hello, Thanks, and Pack Results
Part of me wants to do a tweak, the other part wants to just relube it and let 'er rip. For that first part of me, how would I go about canting the rear axles? We have to use the slots, remember. I have an axle installer...forget which one, but it's the aluminum block with the edge that goes in the ...
