Re: Arrrrrrrg! Why do we do it!

My thing is the paint. We have the car looking great and I decide to do one last thing the night before the race. Two years in a row I've messed it up to the point that I've have to almost redo the whole thing before he gets up on race day and sees what Dad did to his beautiful paint job. The first ...

Re: Bit of a pickel

Love it. All of my son's PWD cars and his Space Derby entry have been pickles (Supersonic, Atomic and Flying), and I'm sure this years car - his last before he crosses over - will be another pickle. Only the Space Derby was shaped like one, the cars all got their names from the same green paint job ...

Re: Tungsten vs. Composite

Old thread, I know, but one of the few where our current problem is discussed. We went with a 3.5oz tungsten disc after having a lot of trouble last year squeezing in enough zinc to get to the maximum weight. When I weighed what we have so far (rough shaped body, four wheels/axles, and the tungsten ...

Re: The "Alen8er"

Just checking out your pics again with the benefit of coffee. I'm really impressed with the level of detail on the Alen8er. My son was saying how much he liked the rake and the roof chop and I agree - the stance is just right - but I'm amazed at how precisely you cut out the windows. Dremel? And I l...

Re: The "Alen8er"

:driving: Kick Up Some Dirt For Me Will Yah!!! We can do that :eager: Absolutely - we'd be honored to have you use the name, and I'm sure my Dad would have gotten a kick out of it. We lost him in 2004, but things like this only serve to keep his memory alive. You can find the original Rooster here:...

Re: Valve Cover Car Racing

And I just happen to have a couple of old valve covers in the trunk of the car that I recently switched out for chrome ones. Been driving around for a week wondering if I should give them away or just toss them. They're off a 352 FE motor and have "Powered By Ford" stamped into them :think...

Re: The "Alen8er"

I apologize in advance - this is a little off the PWD nature of the forum and I don't want to appear to be hijacking the thread, but apparently it's not just the Dad's that appreciate dirt trackers. My son came up with a great drawing of your car last night - I found him sitting at the computer sket...

Re: The Atomic Pickle

Thanks - I have to admit that when he picked two shades of green, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. It appears he has a better eye for color combinations than me, as it turned out nice.

Re: The Atomic Pickle

Thank you :) We can't take all the credit as it is based on a Hot Wheels design, so feel free. It took us a while to sand the block down at the front, and we had to glue extra wedges of pine in front of the rear wheels to widen the body. It made it easier to get the weight toward the back, although ...

Re: The Atomic Pickle

Whoda - thanks for the welcome, and the compliments. Oh yeah, she had to have a big block, but we hid the nitrous bottles inside where the competition wouldn't see :whistling: Tried to find a pic of "The Flying Pickle" to showcase our stable of derby vehicles and I was surprised to find we...

The Atomic Pickle

My son's first PWD was a lot of fun, and he placed second in the Wolf den and won best paint (he'd come up with a very stylish two tone green color scheme). The car went by the name of "The Supersonic Pickle", and although that turned out to be a little optimistic, it did okay for a first ...
