Re: How long do your wheels spin?
It is probably a lot like silicone spray which is reported to be excellent ... for a few heats, but wears off quickly.

Re: Cant on DFW
The effect of raising the front end by 0.05" (if the wheelbase is 5") is less than 0.6 degrees. I think that few people would be able to twist an axle in increments of 0.6 degrees or less! Depending on the bend in the rear axle, the change in the angle between the axle and the car path fro...

Re: How long do your wheels spin?
Spray it on, and wipe it off. Leaves a thin, slick film on your wheel bore and/or axle. As I understand, it is a "dry" film, just as would be left on a finished wood surface that your mother treated with Lemon Pledge! Being dry, it should cause no issues with rules and not affect graphite ...

Re: Straight running car
... Even with the steer trimmed way down to a usable 3" in 4' (done post video), the rear wheel stayed off the rail just the same. I know we can't steer, but my thinking is that If/when the car does eventually make contact with side rail, the rear wheels won't. On a regular 4 wheel car, I woul...

Re: First attempt at a ladder chassis...
I've raced very nicely with side rails that thin (and missing the middle cross piece) with nothing covering 'em to give them strength. Since I think that you will be reinforcing with some kind of covering, you should do great! If anything, you may find that the front end is lighter than you want.

Re: Straight running car
So ur suggesting 2.5 negative camber on all 3 wheels?? "Inside the envelope"???? The car is done so narrowing the rear is not going to happen. The holes are drilled. With one raised. I can achieve the negative camber by bending the axel?? By "inside the envelope" I mean that the...

Re: Straight running car
Here are the critical issues as I understand them: 1. Narrow the rear (both sides) to assure that they do not contact the track edges. 2. Use negative camber on rears to ride on a narrow wheel edge (known to be faster than running on wider flat tread.) 3. Align the rears to (a) run parallel tracks a...

Re: How to secure DFW axle?
See if you can find another way to twist those axles whose necessarily pristine heads are way down in the wheel hub!Speedster wrote:We must use slots. We are not allowed to cut a slot in the axle head so I am forced to leave just enough room to grip the DFW with the special pliers.

Re: Thoughts on rule interpretation....
Even if the organizer insists that "axle holes" means "original slots", sectioning the block and repositioning the sections that contain the slots leaves the result in compliance. I was talking about using the kit issued for the race.. and turning it into a 56-77 kit style car. ...

Well, rule 4 explicitly allow changing the wheelbase. ("Modifying the wheel base is acceptable as long the original wood is used for the axle holes.") Even if the organizer insists that "axle holes" means "original slots", sectioning the block and repositioning the sec...

Re: Need definition of COG and COM.
You will also see occasional use of CM, CMx, CMy, CMz, CMloc, etc. In a PWD context, the reference (0 in the coordinate system) is usually the center of the rear axle, with the x-axis extending through the front axle and y-axis across the car in the axle plane. Some folks worry about the z-axis loca...
