Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

The tape worked out great! I was able to get all 4 cars to 4.995 ounces. Might have to do a slight adjustment for official weigh-in, but that was a great tip! Thanks!

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

I've got no more tungsten putty. I used it all up getting all four to these weights.

I supposed to can drill some holes for bb's, but in reality, drilling the wood out to drop a bb into it might not really be a worthwhile trade-off. I've got until tomorrow night to figure something out.

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Cars are done. Weights are (from left to right): 4.97 - Mine (unnamed as of right now) 4.76 - My Daughters (Enderman from Minecraft) 4.98 - My Sons (Minecrafter) ; I'm sensing a theme with their current favorite game... 4.82 - My Wife's (Burnt) ; She used a wood burner, traced the grain and gave it ...

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Well, time to put my money where my mouth is. We did 4 cars this year (my wife actually made one, too) using the basic template. Went with axle holes for these. 2 were done with the weight plan from my template I made with standard wheelbase. My wife and daughter decided to use those. My sona dn I d...

Re: Meet the TRANSPONDER

That's awesome! I've got a 2 lane track that I need a timer for. Much more affordable and will do what I need it to. Something to save up for, that's for sure!

That's Google Sketch-up. If you want, I can send you the basic template I have which included block with standard axle slots, axes and wheels.

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Wow, has it been since May since I posted? Yikes. Well, I made up two templates and handed them out so scouts can make their own decisions. http://imageshack.us/a/img831/9918/denwedge1.jpg Balance point is around 3/4" with this weighting. http://imageshack.us/a/img15/2592/denwedge2.jpg Balance ...

Kids took first in their races!

We had our annual Raingutter Regatta last week. My son took first place in Webelos 1 and my daughter took first place in siblings. http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/6722/regatta.jpg My sons races were all right down to the wire. Could have went either way but his boat managed to finish first every ...

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Played around with a 3/4 recession centered over the rear axle. Can really only go in about 1/16" of in inch or it may cut into the weight holes drilled from the side. I wonder if it would be better to drill a hole centered on the rear axle using the same bit as the weight holes. Go in about a ...

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Cool. I'll look into that. As long as they can compete well, I'm happy. There will always be the few you'll never beat. I've seen it in the past and I'm sure we all have. You have the kids who will always do a better job than others either by experience of their own or by others. Than there are the ...

Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Cool! Well give me some suggesstions to add to it. I want something that is simple for someone who has never done it before, as I said, Explaining it is simple enough. Most people will get the concept but I want to do it in a way that is understandable and easy. Like I said, in our pack adding a coi...
