Re: start tree circuit I have been working on

My plan is to breadboard each circuit, then soder to a prototype board after each is working. Should make finding problems easier. I tried using PC123 but do not have the time to learn a new program. Will give expressPC a try. I need to dig up some old mini lights to measure current but 500ma or les...

Re: Adding Reaction Time & Red Light to Start Gate

The circuit I have designed just for the electronics is just under $24 including ic sockets. This also includes an order of finish circuit. We have a finish line unit but it has many false finishes (it is one we purchased when we bought our Beta Craft track through the scout shop) The lights are xma...

Re: Adding Reaction Time & Red Light to Start Gate

I am the indivual that is building/ designing a pinewood derby "real deal" starting tree w/ solenoid gates for each lane. Have a very simple electronic circuit that I designed over the past few weeks. Parts are to be ordered today as a circuit has evolved from several different circuits. t...

Re: Scroll Saw vs. Band Saw

For $119 you got a pretty good saw. Now add an acrylic table top (1/4" thich, a good work light that's not attached to the saw and a good blower o blow the dust off. An get a hold of mikesworkshop.com and get some free samples of flying dutchman blades. Suggest reverse tooth #9 or 12. Most anyo...

Re: Scroll Saw vs. Band Saw

I started out with a 2 speed Dremel, made several modifications and did lots of work with it.
If looking for a fair saw then the Dremel but need to add an acrylic tabe top, a blade slot and chenge over to pinless blades.

Re: Scroll Saw vs. Band Saw

I believe SAFER is the name of the game if kids (under say 25 yrs) are going to cut out wood using a saw. If you buy a scroll saw depending on how much you wnt to spend buy QUALITY once and only cry once. Buy cheap and cry every time you need to repair or replace. Dewalt for around $400 Hegner, RBI ...

Re: Band saw vs. Scroll saw

Most saws have adapters so you can use pinless blades.
The pins are inserted into a hole in the blades.
I you want to get serious about scrolling then you MUST have pinless blades.

Re: Band saw vs. Scroll saw

Depending on your tool budget- low = Dremel 2 speed for $150 or so medium = $400 aproxI hear the Dewalt is good, has some minor problems that are easly solved (after it has alot of hours of service the saw develops a vibration) High end= $1000+ Hegner, Eclips, RBI Hawk blades = mikesworkshop.com he ...

Re: Scroll Saw vs. Band Saw

YES you can cut a 2inch block with a scroll. A scroll saw will leave less marks for sanding. use a # 9 or 12 blade. I like the reverse blades. Detail - no problem http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g291/Doug-in-the-woods/mmreflection.gif http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g291/Doug-in-the-woods/childp...

Re: Band saw vs. Scroll saw

I have a "top of the line" Hegner scroll saw that I would rather use than my bandsaw. The cutting speed can be increased with a better blade. For cutting pinewood cars out I use a #9 or 12 reverse tooth blade. The reverse tooth helps prevent the jumping that alot of people have. Been cutti...

Re: Adding Reaction Time & Red Light to Start Gate

I could build my design where I can change the time between lights. Planning on a ,5 second tree but could add a second timer for say a faster tree. As far as using a computer, The race on June 30 will be outdoors so the chance of the computer being unpluged is a very real concern. Computer gets unp...
