Re: Setting up on an uneven floor??
What I am really trying to address is that we had two lanes that appeared slower than others (lane 5 and 6). There was not an obvious reason for the difference, so I am trying to eliminate as many of the possiblities as I can. Watching the dads set up the track last year, I thought "There has ...

Re: LED headlights
Just to make sure I understand, are you indicating that a single 9V battery is sufficient to supply power for the 2 circuits? Or is it a 9V battery for each circuit? A single 9V or a couple of AA or AAA batteries would work, you just need to make sure that you are using the correct resistance depen...

Re: Raising the bar by requiring "stock" parts
A little off subject here but I planned on using the wobbly wheels, left over axles and pine blocks to build some toy cars for a local day care. Although they were greatful for the offer, they declined due to the nails (axles to us Pineheads). I even offered to epoxy them in but they still declined...

Re: A solution to the "I didn't win a race" proble
Sounds like you are coming up with some good criteria on how to help a racer win a "Best Gas Mileage" award. The key to the award would be that the car can still cross the finish line, which should still be a goal for the Cubmaster Challenge races.

Elimination Race Methods - Pinewood Derby Times Article
So what did you all think of the Elimination Methods article in the latest issue of MaxV's Pinewood Derby Times, Volume 3 Issue 7? Here's the comments from an email that I sent to MaxV (I don't know who wrote the article though) about a couple of points in there that I had to dispute: Shorter Event ...

Re: Making Decals
Another option is to find a plastic model car kit that has decals you like. It is not the cheapest solution, but when I was making my police car, the decals in the kit really helped make it look like a police car.

Re: Hubcaps
As to the crunched versus crunch as you go dilemma, my rookie concern is that after the 6-8 heats (3 runs a piece as they rotate lanes for fairness) that the car would peak and then eventually wear out the graphite that was there. Which is better: a peaking followed by running out of graphite help ...

Speaking of pinewood derby car on Ebay, here is one for ya. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3165283363&category=2595 This is from when BSA used to sell theses kits, correct? I had thought they no longer are selling them. I guess that would be why they would be selling on ...

I'm really suprised there would be a market for finished cars. If someone likes collecting them that is one thing, but to try to pass it off as their own or their kid's

Re: Cheater Bar
The only reason I can see to have a rule limiting the "nose height" would be if the height of the car's nose was such that it extended over the start pins. When I built our Awana Club's track, I didn't take into account the max height of the car and make sure the pins were at least that hi...

Re: Scheduling methods for large groups
Hey there guys, my head is spinning reading all this info, I think that there is so much that I have lost something in the passing. I am very new to this hardcore PwD stuff. We have just been given a 6 lane track we have a electronic timer and I have recently purchased Randy's managment. Is this th...

Re: Wheel Mounting tradeoffs
However I keep dreaming about an enhancement to your threaded hole which would allow microadjustments in all three orientations to aid in alignment. I'm sure it would be disallowed, but if you could set the axle through a initial sphere with a hole in it (like the inside of a ball valve) and then m...

This site has some information on the semi-truck races http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Gorge/1066/53kubkar.html . This other site shows some photos, http://members.rogers.com/cub15bur/kubkar/trucks.htm . It looks like they are using their regular track and maybe built an extension on the back to f...

Re: Detecting timed racing "crack"
I may be a little out of the loop here, are you guys talking about pinewood derby cars???, If there is anyone out there that has to win a car race that badly to insert some sort of electronic bug, then I belive that our councils have far greater problems then PW races. This whole forum is really sc...

I thought I's start a thread about race prizes. Besides the usual trophies and certificates, what other things are good for prizes?
