Re: Newbie back again

so i'll bend rear axles and just keep turning them until goes she straight and wheels move out to axle head. This will be done with front wheels off and tape or a tack under the nose.

Re: Newbie back again

Stan, I read somewhere a way to align rears with tape under the nose and front wheels off. Was that your setup. Is it worth doing or just cant them and get them to run to heads and call it good?

Re: Newbie back again

davet, If straight axles, you need to fill that part of the groove with a glued-in sliver of wood and drill an undersize hole for the axle to follow. #44 for BSA axles is probably good. Then use Daren's technique of inserting a pilot axle held in your drill press (remove the axle head and straighte...

Re: Newbie back again

Should I weight the front or go with it? Yes, but add the forward ballast close to the rear axle if possible. So just keep moving the added weight forward until it hit 1oz right? I'm trying to figure out why my COM measurement isn't giving me at least 1 oz on front. How do guys get a COM of 1/2&quo...

Re: Newbie back again

I'm at 4.76 oz without paint. between 13/16" and 7/8" COM but I only have .76 oz on dfw. Should I weight the front or go with it? Have done no testing at all yet. Also I have a rear slot on one side that I got the nail in wrong once and now it wants to tip with toe in. Speedster, can I use...

Re: Newbie back again

Thanks. I know you guys like the paper thin cars and can work with axle holes and slots without much wood around them but that makes me nervous. I'd hate to have my boy's car break when I'm putting in axles after he did so much work hogging out the BSA. My stacked weights in back are not as low as t...

Re: Newbie back again

We've carved out "BSA" in the middle of the block and sanded it down to a hershey bar. 85% of the block is 5/16" and a rise at the rear as tall as the two stacked rows (12 total) of tungsten cubes on the very back. The block alone weighs 1.17 oz. I didn't bake it this year but I belie...

Wheel prep for Krytox and grooved axles?

This year we're running Krytox. I didn't find anything in the "Search" function that was clear about whether wheel prep for oil is different than prep for graphite. Also, in the past I've pressed graphite into the wood block where the wheel hub rubs. I don't think this will be good to do w...

Re: Will Chrome monokote affect timing light?

Maybe we'll leave a 1/4" or so bare in front and paint it.

Re: Will Chrome monokote affect timing light?

I called Best Track and she thought it would be fine as the beam is broken when the car passes through. We actually were going to cover the bottom too so we should still be OK.
