Best bore polish?
What are you using for your wheel bore polish? I see there are different ones sold by the online vendors. I was just curious as to what some opinions are to what really works the best? Last year my son and I just used some whitening toothpaste. I know it's only a small part in the whole process but ...

Re: Wheel prep setup pictures?
Ohiofitter, Do you have sandpaper glued to the wood? If so, what grit is it? Do you use different grits of sandpaper? Wet/dry? Do you let your son/daughter sand the wheels all by themselves? I really want him to do it with a little help from me. Also, what RPMs is your drill press running at. Do you...

Wheel prep setup pictures?
Last year my son and I just used some wet sandpaper on a block of wood and lightly held the wheel (on mandrel in dremel tool) to the sandpaper. It was really awkward it seemed. This year I'd like us to use our drill press. Does anyone have any pictures of their drillpress setup for sanding their whe...

Scale
Hello,
I was just wondering what a good digital scale would be? Any recommendations for a good (not too expensive) scale would be and where to get one?
Thanks,
Chipper

3rd at Districts!
Just wanted to share that our son took 3rd at Districts today. We were all excited. His average time was 3.1698 and the 1st place's average time was 3.1610. There were 51 cars in the Tiger, Wolf and Bear division. Our son, Jess, is a Tiger this year so it was our first year. He had taken first in hi...

Re: We won the Pack!
3 Cub Dad, Thanks. I hate to complain too much about the whole event since we won, but I sure would like to offer some suggestions. I'm just not too sure how to go about it right now. One of the main problems was with a certain lane (outside yellow) on the track. I didn't keep track, but I believe t...

We won the Pack!
Hello, I just wanted to say thanks to Derby Talk for all the great information. We learned a lot. This past weekend was our first Pinewood Derby. My son is a Tiger this year. They had a double elimination bracket race on a very old beat up wooded 4 lane track using the "Line of Sight" meth...

Sandpaper grit for wheels?
Hello, Our first year of Pinewood Derby and just was wondering what size grit of sandpaper do you use on the tread of the wheel? Do you use one grit or several? Should I try and get it as smooth as possible? And do you try and completly get rid of the mold bubble? Is it really necessary? I tried to ...

Best time for graphite?
Our Pinewood Derby is on 3/15. I'm just wondering how far in advance should I put graphite on the wheels, axles, etc.? Or is it best to do it the day before and then really try to break the graphite in at home? Or does it not make much difference either way?
Thanks,
Chipper

Wheel prep questions?
Hello, I just found this site the other day. It's great. In two weeks is my son's first PineWood Derby race. He is a Tiger this year. I had a question regarding the wheels. (I did buy some extra wheels and actually have found 4 from the same mold for #10's and #2's.) Anyway, my question is just how ...
