On a nice alumn track, isn't 1.5" in front of the rear axle not as aggressive as it should be?
Maybe dump the big brass weight and go with some tungsten?

Wheel Mold Characteristics
On the MV website is a chart on the wheels: http://www.maximum-velocity.com/wheelaxleqav2.htm#bsamold" target="_blank Is this still accurate data? Should I be looking for a set of 4 from Molds 2, 7, 8, 12, or 15? When reviewing a raw wheel what do you look for? Sound, length of spin, wobbl...

Re: The "Chassis II". or The "Flex". car
While the weight distribution (mass moment of the inertia) of the car would be less concentrated front to back by turning the weight, the balance point (COG) of the car will not necessarily change (by much anyway) providing the brass weight is fastened and turned about its own center of mass. Agree...

Re: What a night - PWD is about building the car
I've told boys (and girls) that it's ok to cry a little when you're disappointed. That just shows how much you care. The important thing is to be a good sport and try again.

Re: The "Chassis II". or The "Flex". car
He's probably wanting to concentrate the center of gravity of the car at the rear wheels. Rotating the weight 90* would change the COG.

Re: What a night - PWD is about building the car
At the pack my son was a little disappointed that he came in 2nd in modified, he'd always gotten 1st in that category. He also got 4th in his division, another let down. I was proud of how he handled it. No tears, just a little ribbing the winner. When we got home he pulled me back to the garage to ...

Ah, while we're talking about axles, what about the shape of the head? Flat or cone shaped?

Re: RR Question am I on the right track? (pun intended)
I've been studying this for a few days now. So the DFW shoud have toe-in steering it to the rail, say a drift of 2" over 6'. (Numbers there may vary.) The DFW can be indented 1/16th of an inch to keep the rear wheel off the rail. Zero camber on the DFW? The rear wheels shoudl have zero toe, but...

Re: Multiple track racing
I understand there are some advantages to using multiple tracks with a large number of racers, but I still would prefer a single track race. IMO, it is less complicated, easier logistics, less people required to run, and less confusing for all involved. I agree, we've just done one track and one so...

Re: Elevating the Track?
When we bought our BestTrack we bought the optional elevation kit. We really like it. Not only does it help spectators see, but each let has an adjustable foot that makes leveling a cinch. Also there aren't alot of people having to stoop down on the ground. The starting gate is about 6 feet off the ...

Re: 2011 Construction Underway
Nice work. I'd like to learn more about how you're building those top two. The last is way to complex for me. Questions: 1. How do you cut something so thin and keep it uniform. How thin is that exactly? It obviously not free hand on a scroll saw. Do you use a band saw and a fence? 2. How and where ...
