Re: Derby Worx Tools WANTED!

Hi Ted. Welcome to Derbytalk.
Might I suggest you buy Troy Thorne's new book, Building The Fastest PINEWOOD DERBY CAR. It will give you a lot of good information quickly and I think your son will love the pictures. It is available on Amazon.

Re: Ultra-restrictive and subjective rules set

Those are the most lenient rules I have ever seen. I do wish the scouts would be able to put their cars on the track. That's a big part of the fun plus it removes the possibility of a tragic accident.

Re: 2013 Lineup

WOW !!!!! CONGRATULATIONS to Team Toback. You are SCARY !!!! You and your son are the only ones who broke the 3 mark. That gives me some faith in the screw adjustment. We race tomorrow.
Again, CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!
Cheers,
Bill

Re: Ultra-restrictive and subjective rules set

Those rules don't seem too restrictive. They are fairly close to our rules other than sanding of the wheels. A rail rider can be built with those rules. I would simply order 100 wheels and get to work. The gage you and your scout built per FS's instructions will be smoking by the time you're finishe...

Re: Competitive times?

A track and timer can be very beneficial to you. Let's say you have a very fast car. You've won the pack and on to district. You take 2nd place at District and you watch the winning car beat you by about 3 inches. You take your car home, maybe put a little graphite in the bores, get a time on it on ...

On the other hand, maybe I should just keep my hands off it.
Thanks *5J's*.

Re: Best COM location for stock axle wheelbase distance?

davidwilkie, I think, considering Physics, you want to be able to put just one row of tungsten cylinders behind the rear axle slot. Using the long end of the block for the front, cutting off 5/16" from the back and moving it to the front, should be the best set-up. If using Max V's cylinders yo...

Re: Opinions on Drift with a RR

I set my drift at 2" in 4'. I then take it to the track and keep tweaking the DFW until the car turns the fastest times. My scouts car now drifts 2" in 35" so we're going to go with that. We'll be racing on a wood Piantedosi track at Pack this Saturday. If we qualify for District I mi...

Re: Critique this car build!

Welcome to Derby Talk. I would recommend you buy Troy Thorne's new book, Building the Fastest PINEWOOD DERBY CAR. Lots of good info and pictures. 1. Don't bake the block. 2. Both cars used the wrong end for the front. Drill 25/64" holes. 3. Yes. Use the long end for the front. You will be able ...

Definitely worth publishing. If anything shows a gain, or loss for that matter, I'd like to try it out.

Piantedosi wood track

We recently acquired a 6 year old wood Piantedosi track. Previous owners said it needs to be kept in controlled environment (whatever specifically that means). Micro Wizard says to keep it away from moisture. Cold will not hurt it. They no longer offer wood tracks. Has anyone with a wood Piantedose ...

Re: Considering purchasing a Besttrack

I have 2, 7 year old, Micro Wizard timers on my personal tracks that are used year around. Never had a failure. Our Pack this year acquired a 6 year old Piantedosi wood track with a Judge timer. The previous pack claims there was never a problem with the timer. That would be the limit of my experien...

Stan, looking forward to the info on the axle treatments. Do you think this information might be available before March 16th? Thank you.
